IBS/Colitis

Hello I was wondering if someone could help me with regards to a diet change. I suffer from IBS and some form of colitis. :ohwell: I generally eat what I want which makes me suffer flare ups. I've tried high fibre diet before which helped for awhile but then suddenly made it worse. I find anything with bread or any food that is breaded is my main trigger and most gluten foods. What I was wondering was could I stick to a diet where I can eliminate all carbohydrate foods lactose etc. to prevent any flare ups. Is this possible? And, if so, what could I eat? Thanks

Look into Paleo and Fodmap diets. They both limit gluten and lactose, Paleo tends to stay away from grains in general. FODMAPs can have grains but they would be ancient or gluten free. That would be my suggestion to check out and see if that fits your ideal better. I personally use FODMAPs but I find a lot of Paleo cross over so I find I pick upp cookbooks for both. Some Paleo books will even address FODMAPs just watch in some cause they some times get slipped in and editing on that aspect wasn't great.

Personally I find fructose sets me off, so many fruits like apples pears and mangoes are off the menu.
Wheat, corn and rye make me ill too.
I had some relief following the FODMAPS plan, but still slip up in weak moments.

I'm also looking at following FODMAPS. It is stuck on my fridge at home and proves a great visual reminder for what I can't eat for my partner. Its definitely possible to live gluten free and there's loads of recipe websites that will help you make old favourites with any restrictions (PIntrest is rather good for this! As the BBC food website).

    Good luck!
