SL and other programs at the same time?

I will be beginning Strong Lifts on Wednesday but I would also like to do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Would it be counter productive to do 30DS daily while also doing SL on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays? I would be using low weight for 30DS; nothing over 10 lbs.

Thoughts on this?

    I wouldn't.

    Even though 30DS is cardio, you're still going to be doing push ups and various other things with it (if it's anything like KBT) .
    And when you start SL and get heavier with the weights, it very well could affect your recovery.

    It would depend what kind of shape you are in already: if 30DS feels like pure cardio and is not a muscle strain for you it may work ok. I do jogging or biking on my off days, but as I'm not in great strength shape I couldn't handle that kind of addition to my schedule... But it may be that you're ok with doing that and SL but you'd progress much slower on your lifts. If that's ok with you and you're not too sore maybe it will work for you!

    Hi there! I also wouldn't, having done the 30 DS myself. Even though it's light weights and isolated movements (whereas SL concentrates on compound lifts) you're still likely going to be fatiguing the muscles you'll need to help you get through the SL workout, especially when you start hitting higher weights.

    If you really want to do extra, add some accessory movements to the end of the SL workout, and do something low impact (running/jogging, walking, hiking, yoga, biking, etc) on your off days.

    Recovery days are just as important as training days, especially when it comes to heavy lifting :)

    I wouldn't. You may end up starting SL and doing 30DS and will feel okay in the beginning, but as the weights get heavier with SL, your recovery time may be impacted by the addition of 30DS. I just started week 8 of SL5x5 and you'd have to dangle a cupcake and a bottle of wine in front of the TV for me to consider any type of workout video or cardio right after finishing a SL workout. I also wouldn't do 30DS on non-SL days.
