Introduce yourself---How did you get to here?

I have been obese for too long. Each year I think I am going to beat it, but I have not yet. I am getting down to the nitty gritty now, learning what were my stumbling blocks and how to overcome them. A few years ago my husband and I were introduced to Hebrew Roots and have enjoyed immensely understanding the Torah (first five books of the bible) and how to incorporate that back into what we know as Christian believers. One of the biggest challenges we have is observing Kosher eating. Not because it is unenjoyable, but because there are so many hidden things in our fast food or processed foods that don't work. Have you noticed how prevalent bacon is now? Normally I would have felt deprived but I realize now the very things we struggle to eliminate are the same things that are really unhealthy anyway. Because of this I have lost about 28 lbs in that last two years without maybe trying to hard. But I need to get serious in order to go the full distance. I hesitate to openly admit my weight but I am over 200 lbs and that's not healthy on a 5'3" frame. However, I feel Yeshua (Jesus) is leading me now and He is taking my burden for me. In the last 2 weeks I have drastically changed my eating habits, eliminating every processed carb out of my diet. I am heading for good nutrition and any helpful hints along the way are appreciated.

Kosher means to basically follow what it written in the bible as to what is good for man. I eat no pork whatsoever, I do not eat any seafood that does not have fins and scales (that eliminates shrimp, crab, catfish), and along with that is not to eat any insects besides the ones approved in the bible (although I do not eat insects). You wouldn't think that would matter but they started making certain food colors out of insects like Red #40 is made with beetles which is not Kosher. In preparing meat too, it is important to remove the blood from the meat so I soak mine in acid water, other people salt theirs. Those are the basics. Along with eating Kosher is the idea that fresh non-GMO food is what God intended because the bible speaks against changing what belongs to God. It's good to have alternative recipes to eggs and bacon for breakfast. Truthfully, ever since I started eating that way I started feeling better, less bloated and my mindset changed towards food in that it's a nutrient not a point of socialization. Currently I am trying to eat nutrient dense foods with high anti-oxidant levels and still have it taste good. Thanks for asking...how are you doing on your weight loss plan?0

I have been eating Kosher for probably 18 years now. You can eat Turkey Bacon if you have a need for bacon. BBQ Beef ribs instead of pork. Other than that it is not too hard. I usually make my own food and try not to use too much packaged foods as they are also loaded with salt, preservatives, and lots of other bad stuff as well.
I even have recipes for Passover week so that my family can have their treats without leavening.
I have studied with Hebrew Roots, Kariate Jews, Assemblies of Yahweh, and others. Just starting to learn about Kabbalah as well. I really love learning more about our creator. I even have a bible from Africa that has the holy names written in Hebrew!!0 -
Great to know Lydia! I would like to share food recipes for the feast days too. I recently had a surgical procedure that contributed to my blood sugar going too high. I would like to control that and believe Yeshua ultimately will bring my body back to "normal" soon. I am taking this situation with faith but also with responsibility to keep my body, my temple, pure, holy and fit. Any help in exchanging Kosher recipes would be very much appreciated. We have a chain of health food stores called SPROUTS--I bought Turkey bacon at Sprouts that is quite fabulous. Eating Kosher doesn't mean giving up, it just keeps us clean. Are you just starting on your weight loss journey? It would be great to uplift each other in the process. I feel like I really need to surround myself with brothers and sisters in the Lord to get through this long process of fitness transformation.
