So i was sleeved June 23rd. I got pneumonia this week and can tell you what. It sucks. They pulled me from work for the whole week and double antibiotics. I got sick Sunday night within an hour I was dead to the world. It hit me so fast and slept 90% of the day Monday. One thing I didn't take into consideration was waking up to drink fluids. My guess is I drank maybe 10 Oz. Tuesday morning they were about the hospitalize me because severe dehydration. Luckily I am back on track and feeling slightly better but coughing still makes my guts feel like they are rearranging themselves. Not a good way to spend 3rd week post OP. Good news I'm down 40 lbs since preop diet started.
Anyone else get as unlucky as me and get this sick so soon?

I got a HORRIBLE cold about a month out. Felt like the worst ever. I didn't take any cold medicine for it the first few days because I was afraid to so soon after surgery, but my doctor said I could so I did. Then about 4 weeks later caught another cold, and about 4 weeks after that, another. Don't know if it was because my resistance was low after surgery, or because my coworkers insisted on coming to work sick, but it was not good. The last thing I wanted to do was eat or drink, but I managed.
Hope you start feeling much better soon!! Take care of yourself!0 -
Within the first 8 weeks post surgery I had two separate upper respiratory infections and had to take a heavy hitting antibiotic and high amounts of steroids (which we are supposed to avoid, but there is no substitute per my pulmonologist). Thankfully I get these so often I always have the antibiotic and steroids on hand and began immediately. I'm like you, one minute I'm fine the next it's coming on and within a few hours it's full blown. I was able to have my popsicles, water and chicken broth.
I've just had another bought just a month or so ago. Surgeon said it was because my resistance was way down, was anemic and it was the weather (I was sleeved 2/5/14). Always get these in the winter or in extreme weather changes.
Hope you are feeling much better. Always use a pillow to splint (press against your front) when you cough and that helps lessen the stress on your new tummy.
Welcome to the journey of your life.0 -
I was sleeved July 2nd and have been knocked out by a horrible Upper respiratory infection and bronchitis since day 3. It's been the worst part of the recovery. I have to go back to work on Monday and am dreading it. I feel like I've spent the entire time out not because I had the surgery, but because I had this horrible URI0
