Hi everyone,

I'm almost 5 months, the weight loss has started to slow down! I have lost a total of 67 pounds since surgery, 90 total! I have just been discouraged that I am now only loosing 1-2 pounds per week. What is normal for 5 months out? I have increased my exercise from 4 days a week to 6 this past week, in hopes that it would speed things up!

Tami, I'm coming up on 6 months out and I'm in about the same place you are (69 since surgery, 123 total) and also losing at about 1-2lbs a week. Since about month 2, I've generally averaged 10-15 lbs a month. I've been trying not to focus on weight, but maintaining healthy and sustainable habits. I've upped my strength training, and I've been seeing huge gains (losses?) in muscle development and overall inches lost.

I'm also finding that looking at all the things that I can do now, regardless of my number on the scale, are a much more indicative of my progress. I was walking on cloud 9 the other day because my trainer told me that I've been her most consistent client in terms of improvement and commitment to getting better. Have you considered getting measured regularly?

Back in college I had a professor berate me when I got frustrated I couldn't learn something quick enough. He told me: It took them thousands of years to develop this math, why do you think you can learn it in a day? I try to keep that in mind with weight loss as well.

Thank you, that helps so much to look at that way! I have not measured myself, but I think I will start that! Congrats on all of your success!

    Hi Tami,

I'm just a little over 6 months out and have lost 55 since surgery (70 total). I'm in a little bit of a stall at the moment. Contacted my nutritionist earlier this week and asked her to look at my goals to see if they were correct. She looked at my MFP goals and did some slight corrections. I'm now at 800 calories/day with 80 carb, 60 protein, 37 fat, 1500 sodium and 45 sugar. She decreased the protein and sodium and increased the carbs and sugar.

I completely agree with hurricanelena. I have really concentrated on working out like a maniac for the last few weeks. Don't know why, but not going to question why all the sudden I'm so motivated, probably because I can now feel muscle and firmness in places where it's really needed because of WLS (upper arms, abs/stomach, legs/thighs). I also measure and weigh myself about once a month and put the measurements and weight on MFP. I very rarely use the scale as I don't want to be obsessed with the numbers. I'm going more on the fit of my clothing - too baggy shirts (falling off shoulders, too baggy pants (look ridiculous and droopy), underware falling off/bras way too big and a one piece swimming suit I bought in April already has to be replaced - it hangs so much after it's wet it droops noticeably when I leave the water.

I was also told that I need to change up my workout routines - not do the same ones all the time. So now I switch up weight training, exercise ball, elliptical and swimming/water aerobics with flex band and water weights - never doing the same exercise two days in a row. With the exception of swimming which I do at least 4 times a week or more, but on the days I do the other exercises I don't use the water flex band as much.

I feel energized, more healthy and have much more stamina than I used to and it has really become routine for me to workout. If I don't, I feel guilty and end up doing weights/elliptical at home.

Hope this helps. By the Way - YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!!!
