Well hello there VSGers.....I've been lurking for a bit. I'd decided to come and talk to you all because I'm having a bit of a struggle.

I am on my pre op diet of about 1200 calories a day to get down only a few more pounds until I am cleared for surgery. the first three weeks were fine, no problems, no cheating, no hunger. But JESUS CHRIST the last three days have been a struggle. My stomach is rumbling and grumbling, it's not emotional hunger either. I know what the feels like. This is honest to god fight the nasty hunger beast. I am pretty active, I bike to work, walk/jog at lunch and also do yoga...should I cut down on some of the activity?

Anyway, hello there I'm Elif, 35, pretty active, and excited about this surgery. I won't go into the why's here becuase, well to be honest you all have said it all before so well.

I am exited to be able to live again, to be able to wake up in the morning and not hobble out of bed because my feet can't support my weight. I'm also excited to be able to do things again that I haven't been able to do before...

Any advise is much appreciated.

I am also in the pre-surgery stage and have been on 1500 calories per day for a few months. I (surprisingly) haven't had too much in terms of hunger problems. I attribute this to the macro percentages I have been eating. My pre-surgery plan (given by the bariatric orientation team) is 1500 calories per day, 100g protein, no caffeine, alcohol, or carbonated beverages and 64 ounces of water daily.

I haven't been perfect, but pretty darn good. I think my lack of hunger comes from the large protein component of my daily diet. That has probably been the largest change from what I have been eating.

Now as a big guy, 1500 is well under what MFP suggests for a guy my size, so I have been losing pretty rapidly (64 pounds since mid-April). I talked with the nurse and nutritionist and they told me if I was able to tolerate 1500, it would be good training for post-surgery.

My suggestion for you is to look and see if you have dropped your protein intake recently, or to up it if you can. Alternatively, save some calories for snacks and have some protein ready for when the hunger hits. Yogurt, nuts, beef jerky, seem to hit the spot for me as snacks and have lots of protein.

ETA: feel free to add me as a friend. It looks like we are heading for WLS in a similar time frame.

Drink, drink, drink. Also make sure you get your protein in. It may help to make sure you are splitting up your calories evenly between 6 small meals per day.

make sure you are getting enough meat and fat because they stick with you. Carbs burn off way too fast and dump out of the stomach quicker leaving the tummy grumpy. i start my day with bacon. You may need to exercise less vigorously

    Thanks everyone for replying!

I am a confirmed carnivore, so I really don't think it's the protein. I already had smaller portions through out the day, however I changed it up and actually separated my portions out even smaller over a longer period and that worked.

So, on to super weight loss mode people, momma's ready to get sliced and diced! ;)

    I know what you mean!!

Ive been on a pre-op diet since 6/3. and have dropped 34 pounds. I am now on the modified liquid diet, but I haven't been hungry at all until the last two days - I just want to tear up the frdge and pantry! Thank God we got all the crap out of the house a couple months ago- the worst thing I can attack is a hard boiled egg. :)

Surgery is on Wednesday, 7/16, cant wait to not be physically hungry for the next 6 months!
