Hey all!
I'm brand new to the group, but started 5x5 last month. I wanted to give myself time to try it out and get a feel for how i'm going to tailor it before showing my face. I think i've made some decent progress, especially since i'm definitely at a deficit.
THANK YOU to all you lovely ladies who showed me the wonders of heavy lifting and tempted me to the 'dark side' of the gym
Squat: from 20lbs 5x5 to 35lbs 5x5
Overhead Press: from 20lbs 5x5 to 35lbs 5x5
Deadlift: from 30lbs 5x1 to 55lbs 5x5
Bench Press: from 20lbs 5x5 to 45lbs 5x5
I'm so excited to be using the BIG GIRL BAR on the bench press! Only 2 more weeks before I expect to be using the Olympic on all 4 exercises

 i know just how you feel. my first-day-ever in a fitness centre, the trainer wouldn't allow me to touch the olympic bar - literally.
i had no idea it weighed so much and i couldn't have lifted it on a bet. plus, i have (had) something a little squirrelly in one shoulder which i'm still guarding right now. i would have hurt myself for sure, so she was right, technically. but it hit every 'oh YEAH???' button i've got. i just chafed.
that's definitely amazing progress. you've practically doubled most of your weights - and you've more than doubled your bench press. that's a tough one. i'd rather go overhead than do a bench any day. and i'd rather deadlift than row.0 -

i honestly do. for one thing, they don't have the same injury risk that bp makes me worry about. and i have big front/lateral deltoids  years and years and years on a bike will do that, if you ride with a three-pointed stance - at least some of your weight on your arms all the time. on the other hand, everything between the deltoids and quads is mushy, and i got into the habit of riding with my back rounded as well. riding a bike so much is one of the reasons i drifted towards lifting weights. i feel like if you drew me with dots like a constellation, i'd look like orion - nothing but shoulders and knees. i'm trying to colour in all the space in between.
i'm making a fairly conscious effort to ride with a deadlifter's back and share out some of the balancing work to my core now. anything that can help me get used to how it feels to engage those muscles, without letting me in for 900 crunches . . . i'll take it.0 -
Great job! Isn't it exciting to see improvements like that? I love to look in my little book and see where I started just 10 weeks ago and where I am now. I'm astounded that I've been able to make measurable changes so quickly.
Keep it up!0
