AubreyDewey,
Thanks very much for the book recommendations. I'm not much of a leisure reader but I think I will look into them. :flowerforyou:0 -
You are very welcome Relentless212!! I am finding these books so insightful and helpful, even better for you to arm yourself with all of the information before surgery!!

Experiencing lots of regret, I'm completely food obsessed and miss eating, I'm having a hard time swallowing liquids no matter how slow I sip it's causing me pain, surgery was 2 weeks ago and I'm just wishing I could go back in time Trying to reassure myself this was for my own good and things will get better0

I've had them and I'm still having them. I was sleeved on May 19th. I'm down 30lbs and while it's fine--I have discovered the love affair I had with food. I felt like I had no friends and I didn't want to do anything because everything revolved around food--let's go for drinks--let's go to happy hour--birthday dinner parties and I just didn't want to go. Well I went to one and I was able to have a chicken wing..and 30 mins later I drank some water--and I didn't throw up--so I kept drinking water and spent more time talking than eating and had a grand time. lol I'm actually taking myself on a trip to Dallas tomorrow because I NEED TO GET AWAY..just me and the road for 3 1/2 hours so I can think and talk to myself. I've got a good weekend planned for myself because I think the regret of the surgery, etc is all in my mind and I've got to change my self talk. Why not start with a nice little trip away?! It will get better as my girlfriends who've been sleeved over a year have told me.
Now I'm sad cause nothing fits me and I just can't go out and buy a ton of clothing...but I will say.. I don't regret having a good night sleep without my cpap machine--or taking insulin every day. :-) And I'm almost 2 months out.0 -
I regret mine. It's been over a year, and I have no restriction.
Why?0 -
Things will get better! The first 3-4 weeks, as I was learning what I could and couldn't do, was a true test for me. And sometimes I got really depressed. I'm almost 4 months out and couldn't be happier with the decision. I wish I had done it sooner.0

Holly, I had my surgery last Thursday, July 10. I went to sign consents on Monday and he worked me in for Thursday. That only left me 1 1/2 days to eat. I felt like I'd gotten cheated and thought of all the things I didn't get to say "goodbye" to....The night after my surgery I thought, "Lord, what have I done!" I admit, I cried a little!! I'm still on clear liquids and the thought of only liquids for 14 days seems impossible. The good new (maybe?) is when I talked to 3 of my friends who'd had the surgery, 100% said they had said the same thing. And like you said, the weight loss does provide some comfort. I'm down 11 lbs today. The whole experience is overwhelming!!!0

I didn't have regrets because I had 2 friends that went through it before me so I had their experiences to lean on.
I do like that you have accepted that fact that it is done.....now make the best of it
I would suggest you reach out and find support groups! You can do this. Use this tool to be as successful as possible. BEST OF LUCK!!!0 -
Did your dr prescribe Levsin? I take it ever 4-6 hours and it stops stomach spasms....0

I am 1 week out today. I definitely feel the thoughts "what have I done" I actually started the work up 1 1/2 years ago, my insurance was like pulling teeth, but I also followed with a bariatric psychologist every month the whole time to make me feel like I was in the right mindset when it did finally happen. Saying that I still feel like I was not mentally prepared. I expected to just bounce right back and be back to my normal activity by now, but am struggling with it. Pain isn't so bad from incisions, but the pain with drinking, the burping, feeling of gas bubbles trapped, and some depression from that I guess is more bothersome. Am hoping each day gets better and will have my pep back in my step in no time!0

It is hard at first. This is a huge change and change is more difficult for some than others. There are alot of people who say it was not that much of an interruption, but I did find it to be a huge adjustment. At first I didn't feel good, and then I felt weak for much longer than I would have thought. A month out I was starting to feel better, but still didn't feel "good". It took a couple of months to get used to the new way of eating and to have some strength and feel like I could truly function again. I will say this and echo what you have probably heard...it DOES get better. And the end result is worth it. Your life does not have to stop.
Give yourself time. This is a major surgery and it takes some time to bounce back. There is nothing wrong with that. Just be kind to yourself and take comfort in that you are taking care of yourself and your health.0 -
I actually was fine at first. I loved that I couldn't eat like I did before surgery. That being said, I have felt moments of regret, but nothing that depressed me badly or lasted too long. Usually, it was if I was eating something really good like a steak or something and I'd think, "Man, I wish I could eat a whole damn steak instead of this measly 1.5-2 oz of it". I just remind myself of how miserable I was at over 300 lbs and how 20 years of trying to lose weight on my own wasn't working.
It's a bit crazy sometimes to think that for the rest of my life I'll never be able to eat like I used to eat, but that really is a good thing!
I still have weight to lose, but I am so happy I was sleeved. I feel a million times better now than before my surgery in October and even after losing a chunk of it. It's awesome thinking about how I'll just keep feeling better as I continue to lose. This surgery really is an amazing tool that can change your life.

The first few months are the hardest because the change is so drastic from what you are used to. It gets easier as time goes on. Hang in there. You made the right choice for your health, give your head some time to catch up and you will be fine. I am 6 months post op and have lost 77% of my excess body weight!0
