Caloric intake & PCOS

Have you found that you have more success with losing weight at a higher caloric intake or lower? When I started I was doing the 1200 calorie thing and losing and then I stopped losing, researched, believed that the 1200 was really quite low so jumped to 1600. I started losing a bit again, but it is slow. Like snail-paced slow. I'm wondering if there is a correlation with the calories and PCOS...if one method is more effective than the other based on hormonal balance, etc. What are your thoughts?

There was a recent study that found that women with PCOS/IR have lower BMR's: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18678372

The effects of PCOS seem to be different for everyone, but this study really rang true for me. If I am eating carbs then I have to go REALLY low to lose weight -- if I eat to my MPF calorie limit (1400), which is supposed to amount to a 1.5 lbs loss a week, I will actually gain about .5 lbs a week. This caused me much confusion early in my program.

If I am not eating carbs, then more calories seems to be better.

At first I found the study depressing, and then I decided it just made sense. I always knew I wasn't eating *that* much. I try to think of our bodies as just being SUPER efficient. If we were to be marooned on a deserted island, or trapped on a snowy mountain peak, we would totally outlive everyone.

Hahaha, I like that train of thought :) I'll read that, thanks!
