Today I decided to share my sleeve story with my facebook friends. I just felt it was time as it was my 5 month post surgery day. I posted a pre surgery photo and a today photo along with an explanation of the surgery and my journey. Until now it was my family and anyone who saw me and asked, I must say I have had an overwhelmingly supportive response from nearly everybody. I have had no negatives and one friend even asked for more details privately for herself. Granted behind the keyboard you can't see their reactions but I did not get the vibe that anybody was judging me and the support was amazing. I am so glad I did this. I also feels it helps to hold me a little more accountable for my choices in the future when things get harder because almost everybody I know has the information now.

I posted on FB just last week! Oh I've talked about my weight loss on FB before. Not the surgery itself, just that I had lost 100 pounds, etc. But last week I posted a side-by-side of headshots from 4 years ago and now, 3 years out from surgery, on my FB page and talked about the surgery that's helping me lose the weight. Like you, I got a lot of very positive responses. If anyone is being negative or waiting to see me fail, they are keeping it to themselves. I love talking about this great tool and opportunity to be healthy. If I can share this and help one person leave the life of obesity, then it's worth chancing negative feedback.
Congrats on your 86 pound loss! You are doing great!

I've found that my FB friends to be more supportive than I would've imagined. I use FB sort of as an online diary, not all personal but enough to share like I can now walk down the aisle of a plane and not have people staring at me hoping that I don't have the seat next to them. Things like that never pop into "skinny" people's minds but we all know and have seen/felt the stares and heard the sighs. Congrats on your success.0

Your so right Choppy. Until you live obesity you cannot imagine the victories achieved when the weight comes off. I am still obese in bmi but I just don't feel it anymore. I posted recently about throwing out my lifetime. My belt extender for flights. I haven't flown without it yet but cannot wait to pull that little tightening strap and watch I actually move.B-)0

I'm so glad it was a positive experience for you! I haven't told anybody except two friends and, of course, my husband and kids know.0

I am so glad that your FB post was so well-received. So far, the only people who know I've had the surgery are my ex-partner and my kids. Who knows if I'll decide to tell more people in the future.0

Congratulations Julie on your tremendous loss these last 5 months. I am still preparing for surgery that I will hopefully have in the next few months. I'm not sure if I'll post the surgery stuff on Facebook or not as many of my friends on there are only aquaintances.
I will definitely post it here though and on a private Facebook group for WLS.
I love the scan picture too that you posted. It's so amazing to think about how small our bones and muscles are without the added layers.
Way to go my friend. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0
