Does anyone else have a port ?

I have a power port in place in my chest. Sometimes it will hurt, which I understand is not uncommon. I've been reluctant to do any upper body strength training. I know it won't come loose or anything but I guess I'm afraid it will make it hurt worse. Anyone have any experience with this?

I think I'll have my port removed after my next clean scan ( October).

    I have a port.

    Had it for 3 years.

    Mine has never hurt.

I hit the weight hard as well as many sports. Unless it ripped from the muscle, not sure why it would hurt...interesting.

    Thanks-

Not sure why it hurts sometimes. It may be that it's implanted deeper <?> ( don't know why this would be either but the nurses would always comment on how deep it is)

I have one. The incision line gets and skin over it irritated. I asked my oncologist about strength training and he said not to while it is in.

    Thanks!!!!
  • This is pretty old, but I have a port, and mine hurts quite a bit, but my doc is always teasing it's because I have no cushion. I can say confidently last year when I was working out pretty hard, it never hurt worse or anything. It hurts me when people hug me tight or if I'm a passenger in a vehicle, the seatbelt rubs it, and there's just a thin layer of skin over it. I think my awareness of it has declined over time.

Mine has never hurt at all but sometimes the skin over it itches a little. I didn't even think to ask my onc when I saw him last week if there was any down side to strength training while this is in. I'm getting Zometa infusions through it once a month, so I'm going to have it for a while, I guess.

My oncologist said my port should not restrict me from any exercise. When I had the surgery to implant it, the physician's assistant who did the surgery told me not to swim (no problem, I don't like swimming) and not to lift weights over my head. I ignored the second part and went with my oncologist's advice. I do overhead presses, as I think they are important, but slowly and carefully. I haven't had a problem so far, knock on wood.

I have a port in my chest. It bothers me sometimes when I lay on my right side and the loose skin bunches around it. Otherwise it doesn’t bother me.
