Hi, Cassandra! You have come to a good place.

I am still pre-op (late September surgery), but what I did is read a whole lot on here (go back and spend an hour reading old topics on this group). There is a lot of information on eating at your stage. You will also see a lot of people with a wide breadth of experiences, so you will see that you are not alone. Start adding friends that are at various stages of post-op and you can see their diaries to see what they are eating (or go back to their puree stage and see what they ate).

I feel much more prepared for my surgery and know I have a resource (my friends) that I can go to to get ideas at every stage of the process.

at this point it is best to stick with cream soups, yogurt, shakes, and your pureed stuff. if your dr says its ok to move to soft solids you can add egg, refried beans, flakey fish, oatmeal, things that are very easily mashed with a fork. remember to take tiny bites eat slow and chew chew chew or your will be in pain... this is a learning process and you just have to not rush it. i know this stage is frustrating cuz you want FOOD but dont damage your sleeve... you dont wamt leaks!

hang in there girl it will get better really quick i promise ... :0)

I took ground meats, added broth and a couple of non starchy vegies and used my imersion blender on them. I also did a small pot of chili and did the blender to puree it. Liquid chili! Beware eggs for a bit as the yolk is very dense and hard to digest. I had to wait 6 months for eggs. Obviously yogurt and protein shakes. And if you get sick of the shakes, freeze them to a slushy consistency (shake every 1/2 hour or so or they freeze solid) and you can eat with a spoon.

I am three years out and still need everything to be moist or I get a "stuck" feeling. Now's a good time to use broth and sauce as you puree and then you will know what you like for when you can add soft but moist foods.

One more thing, I don't use canned soups any more. The fat and sodium are higher than I want and the protein isn't high enough. I make all my own so I can add meat and beans to up the protein and control the sodium and fat levels. If you do this now and puree, you really will get more of what you need.

I remember living off of cottage cheese- it has a lot of protien and it's easy to eat. Light and Fit Greek Yogurt- Dannon- also has a lot of protien and enough of a texture that I dind't feel like I was eating baby food. Good luck!

Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans all worked for me. I was thankful I didn't have to do a formal "puree" stage and my doc moved me to soft and advance as tolerated after a week of clears.

Protein shakes and greek yogurt were my best friends at that stage. Be patient. You'll be able to add real food soon enough.

I agree with the Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I've also been living off mashed everything - potatoes, sweet potatoes and cauliflower mostly and adding protein power to them to meet my goals.
