My new liquid/protein idea. Hopefully will end 3 weeks stall

I have a confession. I suck at my liquid and protein intake. Some days I am great at the protein, and some days...I barely can get 50-60grams. So.....I had an idea.

Since I hate all things protein drinks, even the Syntrax is starting to make me want to vomit....I decided to take 3 scoops and put it in only about 15 ounces of water. That gives me about 70 grams of protein. It takes ridiculously sweet, with the same bad after taste. BUT! It is only 15 ounces.

THEN: On my 45 minute commute to work in Atlanta...I drink at every exit sign. Just 2-3 little sips.

My protein routine is now over in about an hour and I can focus on liquids the rest of the day and get the remaining protein from food! Hopefully I can stick with it! I just cannot stand the protein after taste!

I also would like to send this almost 3 week stall on its way!

My doctor told me not to consume more than 40 grams of protein at once - that the body won't absorb more than that. But, if you can get 40 grams that way, then you only need another 30 or so from food.

How far out from your surgery are you?

My surgeon and his team don't recommend taking more than 30 minutes to "eat" or consume your meal, in whatever form it may be in. You might want to run this idea by your surgeon and his team, or your nutritionist. They might have some suggestions.

I think at just under a month out, it might be better to spread out your protein intake throughout the day rather than try to get as much as you can all at once. I know it can be a struggle. Have you tried higher protein foods like Greek yogurt? Or adding unflavored protein to your food?

Every week I am able to stomach more and more food. Right now I am getting only a couple means at 1/4 cup size and a yogurt in daily. I can only get about 30-35 grams of protein in via food right now. I always have my greek yogurt. It is the flavor of the protein, that aftertaste that makes me gag. For the past week I have just had the condensed protein drink and been sipping throughout the day. Today was the first day I did the massive protein before work. Guess I will go back to my protein sips throughout the day. GAG.

So glad not to have to resort to the shakes and bars much anymore. Are you on regular food yet? Here is a sample menu of how i hit my protein goals

Breakfast -hormel precooked bacon 4 slice
snack -2 coffee lattes made with kroger carbmaster skim vanilla milk
Lunch-small moo goo gai pan, no rice no egg roll, no gravy, has about 3 oz of soft wet mushy chicken breast in it
    snack-2 decaf coffee lattes w/carbmaster
Dinner- 2 oz of soft wet meat with veg (last night it was shrimp)
bedtime dessert of skinny cow bar or 4tbsp PB2 powder or 3/4 c vanilla greek yogurt w/ fruit

i pretty much hit well above 70g protein

as for your stall, did you recalculate your BMR when you lost 25lbs. My BMR is now 1350 cals per day at a wt of 150lbs. it was 1850 when i weighed 253. At 950 cals a day it takes me 9 days to lose a lb. i realistically have to set my calories at 850 tho cause just food variability will easily blow me over a few 100 cals and delay wt loss. Good luck

I am still on soft foods, and slowly reintroducing new foods.

My BMR rate is around 1900 calories. On a great day, I eat about 700-800 calories. Otherwise I am way below that. That should give me about a pound every 3rd or 4th day of weight loss.

The scariest part is I am gaining a pound here, losing it. Gaining it back, losing it. I know it is just my body recovering. I am telling myself not to flip out until the doctor does at my eight week post op appointment next month.

I found Unjury unflavored protein powder. I add it in the morning to my coffee and it does not have a taste at all (that I can tell). You can add this protein powder to warm liquids just not hot (liquid should be under 140 degrees). I add mine after I add the sugar free liquid creamer and let the coffee cool down. Then mix it well and warm it back up. I also add this powder to my other foods just to get extra protein. So far I have not been able to taste it at all.

I'm having the same problems. I hate the protein shakes and don't get as much as I should with my food. I do add unflavored protein to my food but it's a pain in the *kitten* if the food isn't at the right temp.
