Great News Everyone
I got a call from the Bariatric Surgeon's office today & have my consult appointment scheduled for September 11th. That is only 3 weeks away from today. Yeah! I am so very happy.
I have my heart set on having a different surgeon on the team to do my surgery so I put in a request. He performed my Laproscopic Incisional Hernia Repair in 2007 that was a complication from a ruptured appendix 2 years after that surgery.
The Nurse who called me said that she will be booking my surgery date once I get clearance from my consult with the surgeon and scheduling the surgery that day is a go.
The surgeon who operated on me before is the one who heads the Bariatric Department and laid the ground work over the years to get this program up and running, as Bariatric Surgery was only approved here 2 years ago under our Provincial Health Care Plan.
I would have had to wait till November to get a consult with the surgeon who operated on me before so I figured I should jump at the chance to get my consult in September.
Apparently at the clinic you do not have to see the same surgeon for your consult that performs your surgery. I thought that was odd but who am I to question anything here?
I live in an extremely cold climate in the winter and it would be nice to have my surgery my mid November when it's not -40 degrees Celcius which we can get from December to March on extreme windchill days.
The nurse told me that if I don't get an October surgery date it would for sure be in November and that it won't be a problem to accommodate my request to have the surgery performed by the surgeon who operated on me before.
I hope I'm not making a mistake to hold out to get a consult with that surgeon but I really don't want to wait till November for a consult with him as my surgery could be pushed into the extremely cold winter.
Yeah!! Finally I have a consult date. Working hard to get a last 10 lbs. off before surgery. I am down close to 27 but waiting till September 1st to change my weight on MFP. I recently decided that during pre-op that I will only weigh in the first of the month unless it's an appt. at the Bariatric Clinic or at the Surgeon's Office.
It's great that finally this day has come and I can share it with all of you who have been such a great support on this journey. :flowerforyou:

That's great news! It's really moving forward. I hope you can get it done before the bitter cold comes. I don't think it is a big deal to have a consult with one surgeon and then another perform the surgery. It's not like they look around your insides during the consult. My surgeon does 5-7 surgeries a day so I'm not really sure he even knew it was me on the table - just another fat woman getting a sleeve. I imagine it is pretty routine for them and they follow the charts and notes, rather than the actual person.0

Wow! That's great news! :drinker:0

Thanks for the Kudos. I am continuing to research both RNY and VSG just incase the surgeon strongly recommends RNY for some pre-existing internal condition caused by my ruptured appendix or incisional hernia repair.
I really hope that the surgeon approves my first choice of VSG. Praying for that. :flowerforyou:0 -
You must be so excited! I am really happy for you!
When I got my referral for bariatric surgery from my PCP, they wanted me to see one surgeon, but I asked for my surgeon specifically because he did my gall bladder surgery several years ago, and I really liked him. I know that in this particular practice, it isn't unusual for the surgeons to cover for each other if necessary, so I am sure in your case, consulting with one and having another do the surgery is just fine.0 -
Congrats! You must be so thrilled. The exact same thing happened to be. My consult was with one surgeon, yet the head surgeon ended up doing my actual surgery. Go get your consult, put your request in for your choice of surgeon and see what date you get. It won't be long now before it will be your turn. :flowerforyou:0

That's the most wonderful news you could get. I think your decision is a good one as mine was done by the lead surgeon (who is also the lead for this type of surgery and department) and I am extremely happy with how little recovery I had and no problems with my surgery or after.
Can't wait to hear more.
