My Frist Stall!

I have hit my first stall in almost 11 months since surgery. I know a lot of people stall as early on as a few weeks and I shouldn't be complaining, but it's a little frustrating. Any advice as to how to break it or get through it? I have thought of upping my calories a bit. I usually have about 900 calories a day. I am going to try to mix up my exercise a bit too. I am also going to actually try patience as well :-) Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

First stall in 11 months? Dang, you lucked out! My suggestion? Patience. You have lost a LOT of weight. Keep doing the right things. You need to do them for your health anyway, so just keep at it. The scale will move again eventually.

How long have you been stuck? When you're used to loosing about 3lbs a week, 10 or so days with out a loss can feel like a stall. Also, keep an eye out for other body changes, while the scale may not be dropping, your shape may be changing with inches coming off. My worst stall was right after surg and was about three weeks. I've hit a stall about 10 days since then, changed my excersise a bit and things got moving again. I'm not great with patience either, but we know that if we keep doing what we should- eventualy our stubborn bodies will give in and give up the fat!

Congrat on your success so far! You might up your cals some for a week and then drop them back down. How much exercise cals do you burn a day? If you are only eating 900 cals and burning more than 300 cals in exercise daily you might be not consuming enough cals too!

The days I work out, I burn anywhere from 600-800 calories, which is why I was thinking of trying to up my calories. It's just hard because I feel like I can't eat any more than I already do, so I need to find some options that are still high protein but more calorically dense.

900 calories may be too low for 11 months out. I would suggest talking to the nutritionist at the bariatric surgeon's office to learn what your macros and calorie goals should be for where you are.

Every MD's office is different. I am 10 weeks out, and was told to aim for 1000 calories/day minimum.

You are SO right that every surgeon's office is different. Last time I saw my surgeon, I told him that with my calorie intake and exercise, my net calorie intake was low, sometimes even negative, and he said as long as I feel ok and my protein levels and bloodwork are good (which they are), then I am good. He said if I feel like eating more I can but if not that's ok too. I see him in about 4 weeks for my one year post-op visit, I will definitely have a lot of questions for him!

I will definitely have to give that a try. In the past it was a trigger food for me so I will be very cautious and see how it works for me now.

Good plan. As long as you feel good, get your macros in, and are touching base with your MD, you should be set. Right? :)

i second the peanut butter. With your exercise schedule you may have dropped your calories to where you are gonna lose muscle tone. i know you are a big weigh and measure person. i have less issues with stalls since i just weigh in grams mostly.

Yes, I am meticulous with weighing and measuring. You have a really good point about possibly losing muscle tone, especially since I am about 30ish lbs from my goal weight. I think upping my calories is in order for sure.

What does your carb intake look like? I noticed my weight loss stalling/slowing down and as I was going through my food intake I noticed it coincided with my carb intake creeping up. Upping my water and lowering my carbs got that scale moving again.

My carb intake is pretty good. I haven't added any simple carbs back into my diet (no breads, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) so the only carbs I get are from fruits, vegetables, protein bars, things like that. I definitely make sure I drink lots of water, fortunately that isn't a problem for me!

All I can say is WOW. Your first stall in almost a year. I only wish. Congratulations on your success so far. You are probably right about having to increase your calories and since you will be see your doc soon I can't see how it could be a problem. Good luck on you last 30 to goal. You are doing wonderful.
