Hey Everyone- I am headed to the beach this weekend for the first time since being a pumper. What do you do with your pump while at the beach? I have a medtronic minimed and I looked at their waterproof case, but I don't have enough time to order it before I leave tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated!

Depends what you want to do. I usually just clip it to my swim suit and its fine for sunbathing, soaking your feet, etc... When I plan to swim I disconnect it. If I'll be in the water a long time and its going to get wet I put it in a ziplock baggie and just tape the bag closed. I don't swim with a ziplock bag but for things like white water rafting or kayaking it works well. The pump can get wet but you don't want to dive deep with it or have it underwater for a long period of time. Have fun!

I typically use an insulated lunch bag or cooler, wrap up my pump/insulin in a wash cloth and bag it (prevents it from freezing or getting wet), and place it in the cooler with packets of ice. I used a similar method during a long day trip that required me to bring an extra vial of insulin, and my insulin stayed cool during the 16-hour trip.

Thanks! I'm going to take a little cooler that I normally use for my husbands lunch and some ice packs! I love to hang out in the ocean so I'll just be sure to get out every so often to test and probably have to take more bolus insulin.

I do the same thing, cooler and a baggie.
Depending on where you are too....I'm in Chicago so the water is quite cold and I don't ususally go all the way in and will sometimes just leave the pump on. It can be submerged just not for long periods of time.
I also wear a Medtronic Minimed.

    Have fun!!!

I do not swim, but I'm guessing with the tubing coming out, there would be no way to get a bag completely sealed... so it would leak in water. I almost wonder if it would help to also take an old sock and slip it in, then fold the sock down (so there are 2 or more layers around the pump). That way, the water that does get into the bag would have to be enough to soak the sock before it gets to the pump.

I usually keep it connected and under a towel and if I go in the water, I take it off. I'm not usually in the water long though.
