Hopefully One Step Closer To VSG

I met with my GP of 20 years this past week. It was the 1st time I've seen her since I completed the 6 month pre-op program and have my consult with the surgeon set in 10 days. It was important to me to her my GP's input since I was told to give RNY some serious thought from the clinicians where I did my pre-op program.
I was thrilled that my GP advised me that she would recommend VSG for me. I realize that she is not the surgeon but hopefully her recommendation will help me build my case for VSG in the event the surgeon strongly advises RNY.
Another concern I had was that I would have to wait till November to get a consult with the surgeon who did my laparoscopic hernia repair in 2005 that was a complication of my ruptured appendix.
The nurse who called me to schedule my consult said that it didn't matter which surgeon did my consult and that it wouldn't be a problem to book my surgery date with the original surgeon who operated on me before and who also heads the Bariatric Department here. He also spent years advocating to get this surgery program going here and ran a successful study so that the surgery is now covered here by our provincial Health Care Plan (as long as you qualify for it).

My GP told me that she had full confidence in the female surgeon I am having my consult with and thinks I should schedule the same surgeon for both the consult and the surgeon. That makes sense to me too but I will have to see how the appt. goes first & pray that she supports performing VSG on me.

The surgeon I am seeing has also operated on some of my GP's patients & it means a lot to me that my GP has full confidence in both of these surgeons. So I wanted to share this news with all of you and ask for your feedback. As of now, the nurse told me it won't be a problem to book my surgery in November with either surgeon but I must get the pass from my consult before surgery can be scheduled.

On another note, my iMac has been acting up lately and I can no longer start it up. I'm taking it in on Tuesday. My sister who moved in with me last night has been nice enough to let me use her laptop when I need too. Bless her for that. I would be going through major withdrawal without computer access. Have a good evening everyone & I welcome your feedback.

Here's hoping everything goes well at your appointment. Given everything thing you done so far, there doesn't seem to be a reason why it wouldn't go well.

As far as who does the surgery I would say whoever you have the most confidence in, as long as the doctor who did your surgery before is an expert in this type of surgery. It is a specialized field.

With the sleevethe surgery went well, I was back at work in 3 days and just had to remember - no lifting. I was very luck and had very little pain and no nausea or vomiting after but had prescriptions for all if I needed them.

I am loving my sleeve and at almost 7 months out I can eat just about anything I want and exercise regularly. We will support whatever you do and whoever you does your surgery. You must be getting so excited you can hardly contain yourself. Can't wait to hear how your appointment goes.

Know you'll do just fine and it's always better to have your family doctor endorsing the surgery.

Thanks for your kudos on my effort Harm. I feel I have given this my best effort & feel confident I will be 30 lbs. down from when I started the program in February. I didn't have any pressure put on me to lose X number of pounds so I feel confident with where I'm at. Of course my exercise could be a little more consistent but overall I am pleased with my overall progress.

I will be sure to post after my consult with the surgeon and let everyone know how it goes.
Thanks again to all of you for all of your support. It means the world to me. :flowerforyou:
