Results for the Third section of the Grand Tour Challenge (La Vuelta Espana) are as Follows:
first of all the Red Jersey overall competition...
First - Rider #331 - Veloman21 - with a frankly astounding distance of 1832.3km. And just to put this ride in perspective - Alberto won the race in an overall ride time of 81h21m05s... Allan actually spent 80h04m19s in the saddle for this challenge, which is pretty much comparable, and really gives some idea of the effort he's put in. Absolutely amazing.
Second - Rider #321 - cyclistphil, with another enormous distance of 1501.3km Chapeau.
Third - Rider #309 - TheBigYin - Sadly I was unable to defend my title from last year against far superior riders. Still, 1261.9km isn't to be sneezed at.
The competition for the Sprinters Jersey saw a return to the top spot on the podium after his absence in last years challenge.
Rider #303 - Cloggsy71 with an average of 31.63kph, amazing considering he was also one of only 4 riders to ride every stage of the challenge - something of an achievement in its own right.
Next, we come to the Polka Dot Jersey Climbers competition...
Rider #331 - Veloman21, not content with riding every stage, and achieving the greatest overall distance Allan also managed to ascend 22,903m - over double the amount of his nearest rival (that's 12.5m of ascent for every Km ridden in the challenge, and a higher "ascent ratio" than any of the non MTB riders...)
And Finally, the Combined Points Jersey White Jersey competition...
Based on the overall position achieved in the three other competitions, this is calculated with by ranking every rider in the 3 jerseys, and assigning 36 points for the leader of the competition, down to 1 for the lowest in that category. So, theoretically, the maximum points achievable is 108. Our Winner of this competition dropped a mere 5 points, with a second and two thirds in the other jerseys...
Congratulations on a fine overall performance to Rider #321 - cyclistphil
So that's all for the individual competitions. However, there's also the team competition to announce, and it'll come as no shock to anyone who had been following the logging spreadsheet that there's an obvious and clear winner in this category.
Congratulations to Team FDS

A fantastic team effort, with every single member playing a major part in the overall...
Hopefully, the final results are now showing in the spreadsheet at

Special thanks to Fran and Clive for their assistance in keeping the above spreadsheet up to date when I've been too dog tired to even switch the computer on. Much appreciated folks.
And As always well done to everyone who got out there and did a ride and joined in the fun...

I've passed the URL of the "graham watson" thread to the usual impartial judging panel, and hopefully we'll have results coming in the next day or so...0

Well done to all the jersey winners - and to everybody who rode on this challenge - it was great to be alongside you all !
Thanks again Mark for all your incredible hard work in making this happen - inspires a LOT of people to ride above and beyond the norm! :drinker:
PS. Can we do it all again now that I've got my new bike?! :laugh:0 -
Again, awesome challenge. Awesome set of challenges; not only the grand tours, but also the classics challenges too.
Mark, these are by far the best challenges I have ever had the opportunity of riding in; they keep me motivated and keep me striving to improve year on year. Without these challenges and the friendly competition, I'd just be riding 'without purpose'. Top man! Thank you! :drinker:
For me, they are motivational and long may they continue!
Veloman21, you are awesome! The distance, time and amount of climbing you have done is insane!
Cyclistphil, second step on the rostrum is no mean feat in itself; with that distance, you would've normally 'walked' away with the the red jersey!
TBY, Third step on the rostrum is not to be sniffed at either. Again, that distance ridden would be 'there or there abouts' normally for this challenge; there have been some really monster distances covered in this challenge. Distances that make me feel quite ill
I'm delighted to be in green again; there are some worthy challengers coming out of the woodwork... These help me keep 'on my toes!' What can I say; the missus always says I'm quick...
Cyclistphil, the points jersey win is amazing; the most consistent performance of the whole challenge - you should 'virtually' wear this jersey with pride! Chapeau!
Team FDS - Amazingly consistent team performance! Your 'Distance by Team' pie chart is a joy to behold! You've well and truly 'wiped the floor' with the rest of the competition collectively! Plus two and a bit times the total distance the pros rode in the actual Vuelta is amazing!
Everyone who took part were awesome; a fair few of which have suffered injury, illness during a very busy schedule. For some 'life' has just got in the way. Everyone who rode, no matter how much or how little, make these challenges worthwhile & help us to realise our weight loss goals - Hey, after all... That's why we're all here in the firth place right? I salute you all!
There are three riders who deserve a special mention; riders who rode every day the pro's rode in this challenge.
Veloman21
TBY
KitTheRoadie
(& me :blushing: )
That is no mean feat in itself too; chapeau gentlemen!0 -

To find myself in such illustrious company is truly an honour! You guys inspire me to get out there day after day, and I am glad to call you my friends! Congrats to the jersey winners, them is some truly awesome numbers! Well done to all involved! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:0 -
Fantastic riding all and congrats to all the jersey winners, takes some serious effort to be wearing one of those, I wasn't at the races this time but have nothing but admiration for those who gave it everything, looks like I will have to up my game for the next Tour, thanks to TBY for running it, very much appreciated and I know personally the challenges that come with this sort of thing so Chapeau for running it and keep running it so well, nice one to Cloggsy and Frannybobs for helping out.
I really did enjoy being part of the dream team that was FDS, made a real change just being part of something great then trying to go balls out to win a jersey, really was a very well balanced team and everyone did a brilliant contribution.
I think the next one I'll be interested in will be the Winter Challenge if that one is happening again?? As Cloggsy puts it it's nice to have people to compete against and gives you a sense of purpose on top of your fitness gains.
Then we can all rock it again next year lol0 -
Simply amazing to be a part of a Team FDS. I didn't want to let my slice slide, but I really didn't want to see the team in the red. Being in a later time zone, I found myself checking our daily totals to see what was needed to keep the team in the black. It definitely boosted my riding and made me stronger.
Thanks again Mark for putting these together. Fran & Clive for number crunching, and giving me a women's tab to see how I stack up against the gals. Thanks to our Captain and Ride Leader, Jason and Chris for encouragement and occasional prodding... It s truly felt like a team.
This was an awesome challenge. Great job all!0 -
A massive thank you to Mark for organising and running another superb challenge. The orchestration, attention to detail and sense of community sets this apart from any other challenges out there on MFP, Strava or wherever. A shout out to Fran and Clive for their very able assistance also.
Congrats to all the riders and to the remarkable teamwork of Team FDS, brilliant stuff!
I'm dead chuffed to be in red and the polka dot but I salute everyone for getting out there whenever they could, in rain or shine and ride. That's what this is about.
I haven't been on MFP for very long and this is only my second challenge but the MFP community and our own community within it have inspired me to no end. As I look at the results for the red jersey, it struck me that there were two fat 50+ year olds, who have both lost well over 100lbs, on the podium. To me that is the embodiment of what MFP and this challenge is all about.
Cheers,
Allan0 -
First off a huge thanks to TBY for putting on the competition. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also to Fran and Cloggsy for all of their hard work every day.
Thanks to all of the Twinkie Skoffers! it was a pleasure riding with you all and I was proud to be part of the team.
Congratulations to Veloman21 on both of your jerseys!!! I really wanted that Red one and I tried to come up with all kinds of excuses as to why I didn't get it but you were definitely the better man.
And Congrats to TBY for the Podium. You seem to be a permanent fixture there in all of the competitions which is an amazing feat in itself.
Congratulations to Cloggsy on the Green Jersey! well done especially to keep that up through every day of the competition.
Congrats to Team FDS!! Well deserved. Everyone on the team did their part perfectly!! That is real team work!!
As for me I Had an amazing time riding this competition and am thrilled with the white Jersey!! This was about all I could pull off in 3 weeks. With job and family and all of the other stuff in life!! The competitions was out of my league in this one.
I look forward to the next one!!

Huge congratulations to all the jersey winners! Your stats are trully astonishing, literally blew me away... Meanwhile, everyone participated are winners just the same, the hard work and the time you guys and gals put in are just unbelievable, chapeau to all of you!
Big thank you to Mark for once again organised such a motivating and fun challenge, I thoroughly enjoy every day of it from Day 1. I would check out how was everyone/teams were doing whenever I can, it felt like a real race so I needed to keep myself updated to avoid being last of the bunch haha! Also a personal thank you to Mark to log my rides for me (and fixed some for me as I often forgot to turn off the device!)
This is the best, most fun & most well organised (cyber or real) race I participated, and I look forward to the next ones :drinker:0 -
Well done to all the prize winners and all that made an effort to get out there and ride!!
Another fantastic challenge Mark, I believe the standard and popularity of these challenges have grown so much its there to be seen in the results being achieved, this without a doubt is all down to your effort time and coordination Chapeau!!
As for my efforts I can only apologise to team one I missed the second weekend due to a stag and last weekend as I was running my 1st organised half marathon (much to TBY's disapproval) 1 hour 56min much to my delight

Jason and Chris for occasional prodding...!
Hey, you said you wouldn't tell!0 -
Congratulations to all the amazing jersey winners, and to all the riders that participated in this one of a kind challenge. It was you who encouraged me to get out there and ride, and do what I can, even when my motivation was missing. All I'd have to do was take a peek at the impressive spreadsheet or look at my strava, and I'd have an instant attitude adjustment. .
A big thank you to Mark who organizes and runs this excellent challenge and to Franny and Clive who help keep the spreadsheet going. I can't imagine the time and effort it takes to run a challenge like this and I agree with the others; that this virtual cycling challenge is most fun and the best around! :drinker:0 -

Silly sport - but that is a good time for first half marathon - my OH runs so I know that sub 2 hours is a good time! Personally I tried running, was rubbish at it and am not built for it - so I'll stick to the bike! No triathlons for me!0 -
No triathlons for me!
Seconded! They're a run and a swim too far :laugh:0 -
Jason and Chris for occasional prodding...!
Hey, you said you wouldn't tell!
Never trust a woman in spandex... It was more like getting the information out there than actual prodding. (Better?)0 -
Just getting back to riding and logging after being gone to Indianapolis and then moving houses. Just wanted to pass on a bit thank you to Mark for a great challenge! Congratulations to all the winners. You deserve a big tip of the hat and a crisp SALUTE! :drinker: :drinker:0

Well - that's it from the Grand Tour Challenges for this year folks. I'm going to un-stick the threads for these now, to make way firstly for the final section of the Classics Challenge, and then for this years incarnation of the "winter series" I dreamed up last year...
It's been a honour and a pleasure to ride along with you all over the summer - and hopefully we can keep up some of the fitness gained as we hit the cooler climes (well - all bar Kupe of course, who's got an entirely different take on these matters)0 -

I'll second Cloggsy. The honor has been ours. Thanks Mark.
