Camping with the Sleeve

I am 8 weeks post-sleeve. I am taking my kids camping next weekend for the first time post-surgery. At 50lbs down, I am hoping things will be a little easier this time around.

I am planning our food and am a little stumped on what I can eat. We usually have one night of pie irons and one night of turkey hot dogs. I think I could eat a turkey hot dog without the bun but I'm not sure what to do about the pie-iron night. Usually, our pie irons are bread, scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon. Could I make mine with a tortilla? I guess I could make it with the bread but just eat the insides?

For breakfast, I usually bring pre-made whole wheat banana bread or pumpkin bread. I'm not sure what I could bring for myself that's easy? We do fire cooking only so no propane stove top.

Lunch ideas? I think that will be easy. A string cheese, a yogurt, etc.

And the s'mores are just going to be something I have to ignore.

Any tips for camping with the sleeve?

    I don't think I camped when I was a new post op. But I have gone camping on a very restrictive diet and I found the following useful
    - hard boiled eggs (I had boiled them before we left I think)
    - small tins of tuna and salmon - with something to mix into it
    - scrambled eggs from inside your bread will be fine :)
    - mashed veggies
    - soft cheese

    that's all I remember having - well I had hard cheese, not sure where you are on the hard/soft thing.

    What about protein shakes, hard boiled eggs, low fat cheese sticks, pre-cooked chicken (maybe you could warm it up in the iron over the fire without bread), chicken sausage?

    Don't forget the protein bars! Great in a pinch for a meal but also great for the campfire when you want those smores.

    8 weeks out you need to be following YOUR reccomended meal plan. You can cook normal camping food for your family but you should only eat what is on your plan. Carry some canned/bottled protein drinks to keep you going. Drink fluids all day but avoid eating anything that is not on yoru plan.

    I think I have a good packing list. I'll bring some yogurt for breakfast, a couple of protein bars just in case, string cheese and turkey pepperoni, almonds, etc. For the pie iron night, I'm just going to eat the insides - egg and bacon.

    I went camping and I did fine with scrambled eggs cheese and bacon, oatmeal. Sandwich meat and cheese and pickle roll ups for lunch- no need for bread or tortillas. Another day was mango chicken salad-I just ate mine off the plate declining empty bread/wrap calories. We usually have marinated roasted veggies as the side because they are stable and good at any temp. For dinner grilled pineapple soy sauce marinated chicken thighs-thighs are more moist. Or really juicy burger patties with melted cheese. I have had no trouble with eating hot dogs. I also like Beanitos cheese puffs and simple 7 quinoa crisps as my chip substitute. You can eat about anything just throw out the bread, chips and cookies. Also baked beans and chili are great camping food
