Stress fracture in heel

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this or any stress fracture. I'm on week eight of no running. Although it has gotten better, it's not healed. Due to insurance issues(long story), I get to see the dr for the first time tomorrow. I'm 99% sure of the diagnosis and will of course follow his instructions. Walking only hurt immediately following the injury. Now it only hurts when I squeeze it(common test for this injury) or try anything high impact. It feels like a deep set bruise and not plantar fasciitis which I've had before. I think it's 75% healed.

How do you know it's a stress fracture without going to get an X-ray/bone scan/MRI? I'm lost

My thoughts exactly. I was convinced it was a stress fracture. Sily me :-)

I didn't know for sure what it was. It is plantar fasciitis. The dr has me taping my foot and slowly easing back into running. Glad I'm not the only one to confuse the two issues. So far so good.
