Last night I allowed myself cake and ice cream at a family members 87th birthday party. Boy did I feel icky for the rest of the evening. I have been bread, pasta, rice, and excess sugar free for two weeks now. (Trying to eliminate my joint inflammation) and my body was so not interested in the sudden surge of sugar.
Hopefully this doesn't lead to terrible cravings. I had gotten through the sugar detox phase and didn't crave it anymore. Next time I will try to pack a personal dessert instead.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Sometimes the day gets away from you. Today I had it planned to have a treat tonight. I ended up though grabbing a mcdonalds in town as I was on the run and needed to quickly feed my nephew and daughter and had no time and too much to do with the time I didnt have. So including tonights treat meal I will come in at about 3000 cals which is more than Id prefer. But I will be at gym twice tomorrow, abs and weights weds, thurs am and fri pm so I can burn it all off again. Just stick with the bigger picture. And I hear you on the sugar. Ive cut it right down and today have crammed in way too much0

It's okay to fall off from time to time. Reminds us why we're doing what we're doing. And, honestly, I feel better if i allow myself to eat what everyone else is eating. I hate feeling like I'm "dieting" and "can't have" something. But, I'm pretty good about being able to eat one bite of cake and ice cream. If it was some salty/savory/fat laden treat I'd have to stay in the other room not to eat the whole damn thing. LOL.
We had a campfire in our back yard last night, and I made campfire food and toasted 4 marshmallows. It was so nice sitting around, enjoying the brisk weather and not feeling guilty about eating yummy, not so healthy things. And, the scale was kind this morning, thank goodness. I expected a little water retention, but my weight was unchanged from yesterday. Might be in the days to come, we'll see.
Security issues Carly mentioned yesterday: Yes! Resounding yes. Not sure how many people realize this, but everything we post here is visible to anyone at anytime. I think it's even searchable. So, for example, if you google my username, carostad, a lot of our posts show up. Even more disturbing is this: https://www.google.com/search?q=carostad&safe=off&sa=N&es_sm=122&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&ei=sPBgVPaZINDLsASjioKADg&ved=0CFYQsAQ4Cg That's a google image search of my username. How many of you show up there? Scary. Lots and lots of profile pics I don't recognize. I imagine they are inactive members of this group.
I had a hard time coming to terms with this when I first joined the group. The only way to make our posts private is if it's a closed group. There's good and bad to that, however. If it's a closed group, people can only join by invitation. And, the influx of new people is what keeps a group alive.
I started a closed group myself, but people really didn't post. You need at least a dozen people who are committed to posting to make a group work. And, those people will drift in and out of activity, so new blood always helps.
This group does have 278 people, and I'm sure only a small percentage ever post. Maybe we should clean out some of those members and talk about becoming closed?
Regardless, anything you post on the internet is not private. With kids that post on the internet, I'm always saying that, and really need to remember that myself.

Lise, if I have to stop somewhere like McDonalds, I've found that i can eat reasonably for about $3 here... A $1 chicken sandwich, just the chicken. A $1 side salad with Italian Dressing. And a $1 parfait. Like about 300-400 calories - and I eat the croutons and all... Doesn't work when you have to keep driving, but if you could get the chicken and chuck the bread, it helps some... Just wanted to let you know... I much prefer the McDouble, too. LOL!
Wowza on the sugar deal. Last time I went sugar free for a length of time, then had a premade chocolate cake, I got essentially high. I started feeling really weird and had to ask my guy what was wrong. He asked me some questions then started laughing like crazy. I was having a sugar high or sugar rush. I don't remember crashing after, but feeling like that, oh hell no. Let's not repeat, thank you. I just had built up such a tolerance over the years, I didn't notice anymore.
Caroline - that is kind of terrifying. Your ID brings up far more than mine... But yes, anything we do is public somewhere. I think considering the deep things we share about ourselves, we should close the group and just make sure there are a few people who can send out invites/accept requests to join who are active. People might be even more apt to join if they know their stuff will be protected...I don't know...
Angie, what kind of personal desserts would you think about bringing? I'd love some better choices...0 -
I'm not sure what treats...I'm going to have to do some thinking on that one.
I don't know about you all, but I am fine with the group being open or closed.
As a teacher, I live by the principal: If you type it or write it down, then it should be something anyone can see.
Not that everything on here is my most proud moment, but nothing that isn't true or understandable. I also do not use very much of my real name in my username, which helps.
If you do make it private it would be nice to have periodic "open enrollment" days. LOL!
I tend to read the newbie boards and if I see someone with a lot to lose, I send them a private message invitation. (And by tend, I mean in the last two weeks ha, ha,ha)

I don't have a problem with making this a closed group at all. We can always open it a short while now and again. I will say if you like the group please invite people!!!! 22lbs lost guys.0

But someone will have to help me out because I can't see how to do it!0

Kudos, Julie - that's awesome!!!
And Angie, I agree. I don't print anything I wouldn't share publicly, but so many people are being overlooked for jobs because of social media stuff, and some of the subjects like eating disorders and such covered here are really personal. That was more my hesitation - less for myself, more for others...0 -
Spectacular Julie!
I think you can change the public/private settings from the top of the main group page. There's a little gear if you right click that will say "edit". You'll go to a page where you can change the title, the description and at the bottom, you can toggle public/private. That's how it works in my other group, anyway...
