Umm, I haven't had the nerve to ask my surgeon yet (my surgery is in 1 week) but does anyone know if there are restrictions for or the timetable for when you can have sex after you have had surgery?

Those are always fun questions to ask...I don't remember having that conversation either...but I almost think it wasn't relevant for me at the time- because I just felt very protective of my abdomin for a few weeks after surgery. My incisions had to be stapled- and the idea of that coming into contact with anything was more than I could handle. I can say I started going to the gym about 4 weeks after- and probably started all other physical activity at about the same time.

Yep, my discharge paperwork from the hospital advised waiting 4 weeks before sex.
  • Hm I had sex 3 days after surgery! LOL I was fine though, but my surgeon gave us the go ahead and my one month appt. Awkward!
Just be sure to NOT get pregnant (I think your a girl? LOL sorry if not)

It was in the discharge paperwork from the hospital, but I don't recall the period.

I seem to remember the discharge paperwork telling me to wait 4 weeks and very strongly warned about being careful not to get pregnant. No worries on the pregnancy thing as I had my tubes tied 27 years prior and was post menapausal. My husband thought the pregnancy warning was hilarious and said if I did, we would be rich a the Guiness Book would most likely buy our story!

I'm gonna throw this out there. 4 weeks. If you can't wait, i'd advise choosing a way that doesn't put any weight, strain, or pressure on your stomach and/or abdominal muscles. I'd just wait to see how you feel afterwards. Some people can wait and some can't, but I didn't have to worry about getting pregnant.

My surgeon said 2 weeks, and that's when I did. Other than needing to be a little gentle, it was fine.

I had to wait 2 full weeks becasue the dam incision site decided to leak some serious pooled blood at the one week mark which is a mood killer. Remember there are other ways to "skin the cat" to help you reduce your stress. As a guy I would be wary of injuring my wife (if she was the patient) and would be a bit gun shy until she felt comfortable.

Doctor said as soon as I wanted but to keep in mind the restrictions of not lifting more than 15 pounds. Not sure what kind of crazy monkey sex would require me to lift 15 pounds though.

My surgeon said the same. Whenever I want, just be conscious of my limitations during the healing process.
