Does anyone know what daily goals we should be shooting for after surgery? I am in the full liquid stage and I know I am shooting for 48-64 oz of fluid per day, and around 80g of protein.
Are there any calorie, carb or sugar goals? I haven't found anything in my materials. I will ask at my f/u on Tuesday but just wondered if anyone knows?

Hi Lori, I don't think it matters much at this stage. I am getting about 50g protein and even on days where I have had a juice, my protein shot a shake and cup of soup I am around 400-500.

I think people say on puree and soft they get 500-800calories
that is what my paperwork says about the next 4 weeks too.

My lean body mass - would be around 50kg or 110lbs so 50g protein is okay for me.

My docs don't care about protein in week one, but push 70 ounces of fluid, mainly water. After they are sure we won't dehydrate, they switch to the protein focus, which will be between 60-70 for me I think. I'm already looking at the week 2 meal plans during puree stage and can't figure out how I'm supposed to get all that in!

At my two check up my doctor gave me these parameters, 48 ounces of liquid - if you can take in more excellent and the protein drinks get included in the liquid count. I was already eating food, chicken, shrimp, fish, eggs, peanut butter, yogurt, cheese, etc. He wanted my protein levels to be at 60-70 grams a day. He didn't care how I got it food or protein drinks as long as I was getting the minimum. My calories were only around 500-600 a day and was concerned that wasn't enough to keep my body from going into a starvation mode. As I can only eat about 1.5 ounces of solid food at a time I was grazing all day, my post-op instructions were 3 meals a day with two snacks, a meal being a 1/2 cup. The doctor said I was doing great, he couldn't believe everything I was already eating and because I insisted he gave me an 800 calorie a day goal. He told me he didn't want me to graze eat forever, but for now, until I could eat more, it was fine. He promised I would get to the point where I could eat a 1/2 cup of food and by a year out a full cup.

I'm in the puréed stage and shooting for 100g of protein a day. My "food" probably only gives me 25g. All the rest comes from shakes and isopure.

My diary is open to friends, feel free to add me.

My paperwork for the first week after surgery asked that I focus on consuming at least 48oz of fluid and 70grams of protein with water based proteins being counted as part of your liquids. All clear liquids to include:

    Water
    Chicken or Beef broth
    Sugar free jello
    Decaff/unsweetened tea
    Decaff Coffee
    Sugar free popsicles
    Crystal Light
    Sugar free Koolaid

Drink 2oz every 15 minutes. I could mix in packets of Healthwise whey protein into water but I just drank Isopure.

Prevention of dehydration is the primary goal after surgery.

Had my 1st post-op f/u today and asked the nurse. She would like to see me between 600-800 calories per day and closer to the 64 oz of fluid. She said 70g of protein, but she likes that I'm getting closer to 80. Except today which was a bit of failure in all departments. But, tomorrow is another day.

I've notices that when I hit 100g of protein, no matter how I get there (a few extra small meals, or more protein shake) I'm always right around 810 calories.
