I have been trying to lose weight for a year! Counting calories absolutely does not work for me. My gyn has recently diagnosed me with PCOS so he prescribed 1000mg of Metformin to take at night. I have also been eating a healthy diet and I have lost 6 pounds in the last 2 weeks. There is hope for me yet....

Bad habits are so hard to break! I was eating really well during the holiday season but I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted on Christmas Eve and Day. I am STILL trying to get back to the way I was eating before then. It looks like the Metformin is working for me. I've only been on it a month but I can tell that things this cycle are getting back to normal. Everything that's supposed to happen mid cycle is...as far as I can tell, lol.

What helps you break bad habits? I have usually just tried to break them all at once but I aim for perfection with that which backfires for me.

I don't have any really good advise except today is a new day. I take one day at a time. Make today a good day. :)
  • I try to focus first on things that I am already doing right, or that are easiest for me to change. After that, it's about developing a lifestyle or balance that works for you consistantly.

For example, on weekdays I have something basic for breakfast (protein shake, yogurt, or cereal) and a frozen meal for lunch with fruit cup and piece of chocolate. Between the two meals, I can count on staying around 600 calories, which is a great base for me.

I try to work out most days during my lunch break. Not only does this give me a nice calorie burn and reduces my appetite, but it greatly improves my ability to focus and power through the afternoon.

I used to hyper snack after work, so I try to have 1-2 small healthy snacks in the afternoon, which prevent me from getting so hungry that I go nuts after work.

I typically do additional excercize in the evening like walking my dog. This leaves me with around 800- 1,000 calories for dinner, which is perfect for a nice dinner, sometimes with dessert or a big glass of milk.

The weekends don't have the same structure, which makes it more difficult. I typically cut down to two bigger meals per day and stay on my feet for at least 6-10 hours.

Working out on your lunch break is a great idea! There is a gym in my office building but my lunch is only 30 minutes long so I wouldn't be able to do too much. On the other hand I could walk a mile or two then take a shower. I bet it would be refreshing though.

I have had a bad habit of snacking as soon as I get home from work. I like the idea of eating a healthy snack before I get home. Perhaps that would keep me from snacking like crazy.

Have any of you used a fitbit? I am seriously considering buying one. I love gadgets and I have heard it's pretty accurate.
