Daily Calorie Goal - please help

Hi,
Fitbit today says that I've burnt 1,958 calories. Am I susposed to deduct 500 calories to burn 1ib a week?
My fitness pal is set to add negitive calories but I'm completely confused about what the daily goal should be?
Please help. My BMR says my resting calorie burn should be 1428.
But deducting 500 from 1958 equals 1458 - is this correct as it seems a very low amount considering I've walked over 5k today alone
Thanks

Everybody's different, but here's what worked for me:
Connect your accounts: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/fitbit
Do not log any step-based activity. Your Fitbit is already tracking that for you.
Log non-step exercise (like biking or swimming) in Fitbit—never MFP.
Log food & drink (including water) in MFP.
Enable negative calorie adjustments: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings
Set your activity level to sedentary: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/change_goals_guided & set your goal to .5 lb. per week for each 25 lbs. you need to lose.
Follow your MFP goal, eating back your Fitbit adjustments. Your Fitbit burn is your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). If you eat less than your Fitbit burn, you will lose weight.0 -
Thank you. I think I must had been setting my calorie aim too low as when I do the above the goal increases to 1,500. This seems a much more realistic number. :-)0

It'll take trial & error to find what works for you, so follow my instructions for several weeks then reevaluate your progress.
I was shocked how many calories these settings told me to eat, but I lost the weight—and have maintained for six months.0 -
I honestly think I had my calorie goal set to low and I was possibly going in to starvation mode. I have lost 59 pounds in a year. I plateaued and it was driving me nuts. My fitbit showed me I was really burning more than I thought. In the 2 weeks I have had my fit bit I have actually dropped again.
