Anyone have any upcoming races they are already scheduled for? Or recommendations for races already done?

I'm already registered for the Virginia Beach Polar Plunge 5k (doing the plunge, too!) February 7th, the Richmond Monument Ave. 10k March 28th, and the Richmond American Family Fitness Half Marathon November 14th. I'm trying to run at least one race per month this year! I know I'll end up doing a Color Run in there somewhere, too. I have the past three years!

The colour run sounds fun - I've seen that advertised - I'm having problems with running at the moment as having ashma attacks because of the cold outside so having to take it slowly.

The Color Run is super fun and it's untimed, so a great one to start with! I ran my first one but the last two I did with my mother who doesn't run, so we walked them. Really fun either way!
  • Yes, I agree that the color run is a great race to start with. When I did it there was a family there who was pushing their baby in a stroller with their little toddler running beside them. Also, there was a teen girl with her friends that did it on crutches. It's not timed and a lot of people walk. It's not intimidating at all. It's a lot of fun.

I've thought about doing Polar Plunges in the past, but just can't talk myself into it. I also contemplated a 15 mile race here called the Polar Dash that's this weekend, but ended up deciding to pass on all local January races. Instead, my first race this year will likely be something called the Get Lucky Half Marathon, which is here (Chicago) on March 14

For races to start with, I know locally there are a ton of neighborhood 5Ks, and I love those and started off last year with one near my neighborhood called the Ravenswood Run. Holiday-themed races like the Turkey Trots are also always fun. All of these races tend to attract a really diverse crowd, as do any of the charity runs (a popular one here is for one of the no kill shelters).
