  • It's Sunday and now I can post. Looks like we have a little snow or ice. Not sure if a jaunt will happen today or not. Going to try though.

Drat, more snow overnight...I knew shoveling was futile while I was doing it! I never shovel, in fact not sur that before yesterday I'd ever shoveled a full driveway. Was a wild hair post jaunt. Hubby and kiddo had taken off to run errands. I thought I should shovel the front walk and just kept going. We have a big driveway. Was a great impromptu workout. THo not sure I want to repeat.

Got all points on the FB challenge. Even posted in the group...but probably should stop before I get kicked out. Got worked up over someone saying all carbonation is unhealthy, so I posted a couple of links..that belief comes from a study of cola on women. Which is bad. My functional medicine doc actually recommended a good quality sparkling mineral water with dinner for the minerals, the hydration, and as a digestive. Not to mention helping till you up. I'm still debating what will do the soda bonus weeks...as giving up what I consider a healthy habit (I drink a liter every night) for the sake of points is silly.

    Jen's Jaunt, check!
Jen: so glad you threw it out there!!
  • Kim, I got your back! :) I'll have to check out the links you posted. I don't feel carbonation is the issue, it's the chemicals (phosphoric acid, etc) and artificial sweeteners (HFCS, aspartame, etc) that are bad for you. Just my $.02.
Kudos on the driveway shoveling. That's hubby's job though! Hehehe....

Carol, I get a big smile on my face every time I see someone post their jaunts. Who knew this would take off! I did the challenge for me because I needed something to get me off my rear. I'm so happy to see how well it's been received. YAY!!! I've been thinking about a little something for everybody that participates (sticker, patch, etc). I'm like a kid when it comes to stickers.
How is your water intake going Carol?

    Ok, it's vlogging time now.

Kim, I think the "No soda" thing is more to get away from the addictions of sugar and sweeteners, I don't know what those people were taking about with the carbonation. But then, you're allowed to put Stevia and stuff in coffee!? There's a few things in that challenge that confuse me, but whatever, not my rules.

Jen, I have some clear decal paper that you can print directly to. I got it at walmart and it prints with a regular ink jet printer. I made a sticker and put it on my phone, but the top layer peeled off, so it wouldn't be able to go anywhere that gets a good bit of wear.

I started saving my liquid gold again! 20150104_12143_edit_1420403416777.jpg

    Happy Sunday All!

TJ, When I scrolled and saw that pick, I thought someone was collecting a "sample" for the doc. haha

Happy to see everyone Jaunting:) How are you feeling Jen? Did you wake up with a monster bruise?

Kevin, I am with you. Kind of been a tad out of sorts with all this time off. Not complaining, but feeling anxious about getting back to work tomorrow. Got an email from a friend at work to warn me of an awful project coming. Anything related to state "standards" equals UGH!

I took today off from Jaunting and working out. My body needs a day off. Spent last night shoveling 100+ foot long driveway and also sidewalk. Not snow but about an inch of slushy, heavy stuff and ice. It's supposed to snow and I did not want that to freeze. Jen, this is my job and I usually like it. Should have warn my HRM because I was panting by the end. Hanging in there on Whole30. Had a unintentional mishap. Took a sip of coffee and did not realize that the boyfriend had made "fancy" flavored coffee. Oh well. It tasted nasty. Spent some time pinning Whole30 recipes today. I now have a Whole30 board:) It is one popular topic around there. Good news...my friend gave me here Fitbit Zip since she got a band. Must remember to wear it.

    Have a great week!

I forgot to ask a question...

Strangest thing. I took my shower yesterday and I have six bruises on me (legs, arms and trunk). Unless I am sleep-kickboxing, I have no idea why I have so many. They are pretty good bruises too at about a quarter to half dollar size. Do you guys know of vitamin deficiencies that could cause it? I rarely bruise and haven't had a fall or anything which makes me think diet.

  • Kris, no bruise, no swelling, no nothing. I was actually very surprised. So I got my jaunt in. :)
Nothing wrong with taking today off. I took yesterday off as I needed the day off.

Carol is doing her podcast right now! So nice to listen to that while I'm eating dinner.

Kris, what's wrong with a flavored coffee? Was it flavored with some kind of syrup?

TJ - with you on both the they aren't my rules and I agreed to follow them - and the inconsistencies (esp that stevia thing). Oh and in my world you would not get points for a mere 6 hours of sleep. I would die on that amount. Minimum 7 hours of sleep (not bed time) is the only way to be healthy. IMO you should not be working out until you get that down. As I told AJ on our consult call I'm a sleep nazi. As apparently she is.

John- you guys are out of my league in the steps. 10-12k a day is good enough for me and about all I can do on a weekend around the rest of my life, kiddo taxi and other chores.

Heron- loved hearing you on Healthnuts. And I was question inspiration. Too cool. When I think of high protein I think greater than 1gr per pound of total body weight. I am no where near that. Nowhere. But I used to strive for that which when I was over 200lbs was interesting.

Kim - You are doing great on the steps and working out with all the family stuff too, Finding the balance is hard. I've done a couple challenges like the FB one with my son. Not a big fan. (Though I whipped his butt on the first one :) ) Especially when the rules are a bit convoluted. And on the sleep component as well, it's my biggest challenge and pretty sure until I can move closer to work I'm not gonna end up where I want to be. Too long a story for here. But it is what it is.

Kris - Will be checking the Med Library tomorrow at work but I would tell you if they get any worse go see a Doc, right away. Spontaneous intramuscular bleeding is not a problem to ignore.

Yea, 6 hours of sleep is pretty relaxed for a challenge.

Kris, and anyone else that may not realize, that's bacon grease. I used to keep it and use it regularly, bit I got away from it.

You all are such joys to know! I adore hearing about your days ... (the challenges, triumphs, observations & encouragements). As for me, I'm basking in the delight of day #5 ULC (which means loss of cravings & appetite) :) YAY! This Old Gal has also been Jaunting for Jen & hydrating to the hilt these past few days. Like James Brown, "I feel good"! (*Yes, I just sang that). Lol :)
  • Not much to declair.. Just checking in. My jaunting is pretty much limited to the air bike. Going to try another Fasting Friday, only on Monday. I need a new name for Monday's. The ULC is working well, haven't been hungry in weeks.
  • Good morning everybody.
Three days of the FB challenge completed and life is good.
Winter has officially arrived in central Illinois. -8 degree windchill. Brrrrrrrr. Really don't want to get out of bed.
DebSue, awesome, awesome, awesome. Now I have James Brown in my head. :)
  • Something I was thinking about last night as I was listening to the podcast.

We talk about getting older and how it's more difficult to lose weight. However, we never talk about getting older and being smarter about losing weight. We know what we need to do. We have learned over the years what is bad for us. We know our metabolism is slower. We know what happens when we don't change our eating and activity habits. We aren't 20-somethings, so we can't treat ourselves like we're 20-somethings.

Wow Jen, great point! We are much wiser. Much! I did many silly things as a younger person to try to Lose weight. Lots of wasted time & energy. I'll keep that in mind today!

Carbonated drinks is an issue every challenge. It's a good thing for me because my sparkling water ends up with grape crap flavoring in it.
But not everyone does that. Seems wrong but I suppose that's why she made it bonus points.
Not an issue for me this time around as Whole30 is keeping me far from grape crap flavoring.

No snow to shovel here but I salute your shoveling workouts!!!!

Thanks for watching the podcast John & Jen! The audio will drop in a few days.

Having a salad with TJs Greek dressing today.

Happy Monday and Good Morning Folks. Cold Wx hasn't arrived yet in my neck of the woods but they say its coming Wednesday. Knees are confirming it
Big Shout out to Kim and Jeffery on the weekend Warrior Fitbit Challenge. A great way to have some 'Play' time over the weekend. Thanks guys.

Jen you got it. Making the age adjustment is probably the hardest thing to do, That might be the next best selling diet, exercise, and lifestyle book. Would be a good project for Carol if she wasn't so busy already.

Gotta go Jaunt for a bit have a great day Folks, Work Hard, Have Fun but above all B B)

Hate that Hammer can't make it!! So glad we had you on for a solo show John!

    GOOD Monday Morning!

TJ, the coffee had "artificial flavorings" so I assume not good for me. I don't usually drink coffee during the day (mornings only) but I needed a shot to get rid of my Diet Coke withdrawal headache. He tends to brew that stuff later in the day.

Carol, I am going to shoot for watching the new show at lunch. I kept getting interrupted last night while it was live. Can't wait to watch the December Challenge show too.

Jen, Very true! However even with all my knowledge I STILL choose the wrong things. haha My doctor always says to me "Uh Kristin, you do realize that you are not 17 anymore, right?" I follow with "Take it back!!!"

John, You are sweet, but you don't have to do that. I am sure everything is fine, but promise to get it checked if I continue to get bruises. Strange thing is they don't hurt. Perhaps I am actually sleep-eating and bumping into to stuff while doing it. lol

DebSue and Jonny, You guys are rockin' it. Just reminded me I need to drink some water. Yikes!

Kim, I agree with you on the sleep thing. I am doing much better with it. Funny thing is when I wasn't sleeping good, yet exercising and eating clean, I would hold onto weight. I think there might be something to lack of sleep and weight for me.

Off to work. Did 3 miles on the treadmill this morning so all I have left to do tonight is StrongLifts 5x5. Got in a load of laundry while on the treadmill. Double score!

Happy Monday....back to work already???!? I guess I'm ready but sure was nice being off.
  • Carol & John, I can spout out all kinds of tidbits of knowledge but put them together in a book (or even a blog), right! Why do you think I do videos? I can ramble on and on but go back and remove the parts that ramble on too much. Maybe I could just ramble on in a podcast. :) From what I hear, you're the writer Carol.

I look forward to listening to the show tomorrow morning. That is too bad John can't make it but he was awesome on the solo show. Have fun tonight Kim, Heron, Arturo and Kevin (I sure hope I didn't miss anybody).

    Happy jaunting John!

Well I have not been participating in the community very much but I have realized benging on chocolate does not help. Over the last month I have reverted back to some old habits, some due to stress and some due to not having it done for me. The six months previous to that I had dropped 95% of the sugars and grains out of my diet and had seen some excellent results. I had lost 20+ pounds, A1c dropped by 3%, I was able to stop taking two of my diabetic meds and I felt better ( stomach did not feel bloated and nauseous after every meal). After a life event that I don't mind discussing but don't want to burden folks with, I have found my old friend chocolate and fast food in my life. The weight has not changed yet but I can see it happening if I don't stop fast. My digestion is also feeling the way it used to. So basically I need to git rid of the chocolate that my daughter brought from Germany when she visited :) and start cooking for myself. Although I already knew it, this has been a wake up call that the diet choices we make have a big influence on our quality of life.
