my Fitbit flex is counting steps when I am NOT moving. can anyone help me with this problem or did I just end up with a piece of junk? last night after sitting on the couch watching TV my Fitbit went into excitement mode that I hit 10,000 steps however I've been sitting there for at least 20 minutes.

Well it is based on the movement of your arm, so if you are not a still sitter it can do that. I may be that you were very close to your 10k and just moved enough to get over the hump. Have you compared your activity level to your dashboard online to see if it is not logging at the right rate?
Is it on your non-dominant arm?
I have found my flex to be fairly consistent and accurate. I have had it since June.0 -
do you have it on your dominant hand? if so you have to change the settings in fitbit to reflect that. Unfortunately it does pick up extra movement as steps, I used to get them when typing!! I read it adjusts the calorie burn as it takes into consideration overall that the steps aren't ALL legitimately done so don't worry too much about it.
I had the Flex for a year and it gave me an average TDEE of 2400 on high steps days.
I now have the One, my TDEE is 2200 on high steps days, I reckon I have to do way more steps now as well to get that so I feel that the One is more accurate. At the end of the day its a good guideline to the calories you're burning and a great tool0 -
What kind of chair are you sitting in while watching TV? I've noticed that if I forget to take my fitbit off and I sit in a rocking type of chair and rock in it, it thinks I'm taking all kinds of steps!0

There is no adjustment ability. That's a rumor from other averages it will start using, which isn't adjustment either really.
To adjust would imply it knows that there is something more accurate it should be moving towards - but it doesn't even know the steps it sees aren't legit steps.
- It just sees light steps, like barely moving around, so low calorie burn.
Yes - do worry about it if the step count is big and the calorie burn is big too.
You can log driving car or bus (one is disabled right now) to zero out steps.
Most activities manually logged leave the steps - those 2 actually will zero them out - for exactly that purpose.0
