Which Fitbit?

Ok guys, I need you to weigh in on this (pun intended). There seems to be multiple models of the Fitbit available - from cheap to pricey. I know many of you have purchased the Fitbit. Which one did you get, and if you had it to do over again, which one would you get? I don't mind paying the money, but want to get the best value for money spent.

I have mixed reviews for the two that I got. I started with a Fitbit One and I loved it. It was accurate and I love all the functions and the social/competative part of it all. Problem was that I was always losing it or forgetting it at home. It is the little kind that you clip on.
So when I upgraded I went with the Force. They don't sell that one but the latest wrist band with GPS is what I'd look at. Anyway, the problem with the wrist band ones was that a lot of folks reported that it wasn't as accurate as the One. And mine was NOT. I was disappointed that I could map out distances and my distance would be off. Frequently. :(

So I went back to the FitBit ONE. I have had it 2 weeks and have forgotten it twice and lost it twice.

Do over? I'd go back to the wrist band. The calibration and exact step count shouldn't be SUCH a big deal to me. I would rather just have it regularly with me! It was accurate enough.

I have the GPS one Carol mentions. The Surge. I have decided to keep it but almost sent back. It's big and bulky. GPS is equally accurate to my phone ( I've run mapmywalk concurrently) but if you saw my chicago walk you can see it struggles in places. Which in downtown Chicago my phone, or garmin do same.

. I like the HR aspect. I'd bought my hubby the Charge HR for his birthday. I think it's ideal. Heart rate, altimeter, wrist display of stats. Sleep tracking.

Like Carol mentioned you can lose some steps with the wrist s. I wore a flex for two years and still like it. It's the base line wrist one. I learned to not stress over a few lost steps but do carry dog leash in other hand . It's big advantage is its waterproof. But you lose the altimeter. So no climbing tracking.

Bottom line is do the Charge HR ( you can use the phone app to GPS track walks as hubby does). However if you need waterproof (fly fish, surf etc ) go with the Flex. But you lose altimeter and heart rate.

I have the Flex, and it suits me just fine. However, one HUGE recommendation - get it at Best Buy and purchase the insurance plan (about $15). I'm on my third flex in 12 months because they stop charging. You just walk it in and they swap it out on the spot for about $2 (a prorated charge). Fitbit replaced it the first time, but it took nearly 2 months for them to do so.

++ on Cynthia's recommendation of buying through Best Buy and getting their replacement plan (if as John mentions you can get the size/color you want). I bought my hubby's online via Best Buy.
  • Thanks for the input. My daughter just bought a Charge HR two days ago and it has really motivated her. She is typically sedentary, but is now churning up the miles as she sees her displayed results. If anyone else has any other recommendations or experiences, please relay them. Thanks again for your thoughts.

I bought the One a little over 2 years ago and it has been very good up to a couple of weeks ago. It stopped syncing. I'm happy now. My FitBit stopped misbehaving. Kudos to their tech support. They are slow, but accurate. Once they responded to me, their instructions were spot on. This morning is the first time since it stopped syncing that it hasn't counted a bunch of steps while I was sleeping. When it finally does, I'll be looking at either another One or the Flex. I'm not big on bracelets.
  • Went to best buy. The charge was on sale for $117. Got the extra warranty through Best Buy for breakage. That should do for the time being. I sure do like the surge, but then again I don't know if I could use all of it. Thanks again for all of your inputs. Good luck in the coming week.

Dragging up a somewhat older thread. The question I have are the Plans, free or the Premium. Which do you use, and can I get enough out of it with the Free? I had a competitors band for quite a while, and you got nothing unless you were on a Plan. I won't even tell you how much that was costing me a month... :frowning:

I was thinking the Felx as I am outside a LOT, and do a bit of water activities. Altimeter would be nice, though I suppose I could use my phone. Is there a good phone program for tracking that?

    Mark,

I did the premium plan for a year and did not renew. Not really sure what I got from being premium other than the supposed trainer motivation plan. Supposedly better reporting but not really sure I knew what that was or used it (and believe me, I'm the data report geek). Now that I discovered I can highlight and copy paste activity details into excel, I really see no advantage to the premium.

As to tracking elevation change...I've found the runtastic apps best in this regard, the mapmywalk group second best, (and if you bike the strava app the worst - I load the gpx from my garmin or if hiking mapmy or runtastic into strava).
