I am not a fan of Greg Wallace but saw news item about this on BBC Breakfast this morning.Given that so many people say it is to expensive to eat well /healthily and they don't have time to cook this could be interesting. They mentioned my key word....planning!

Thanks - I'll have a look at it. I do think food is an awful lot more expensive than it was a few years ago, so it is harder. Vegetables aren't too expensive, but they're still more expensive (per calorie) than things like pasta, rice, etc. And lean meat is quite expensive. I'll be interested to see what tack they take.
I've just read the programme summary now and apparently they are saving £40 a week for an extension - surely that's going to take them a while! And why do they need orange juice?0 -
I can see you and I feel the same about juice! Yes it will be interesting!0
-
I enjoyed whats the right diet for you. Its a 3 part horizon special. It'll be on iplayer if anyone else fancies it.0
-
Interesting first programme tonight - it seems I am a bit of a food hoarder myself It was a pity they did not focus on healthier eating too. 4 litres sugary orange juice a week aggh!0
-
Amazed how much they had in stock yet still spent another £150 or so, and it proved many supermarket own brands are as good or better than similar branded products. I worked a few weeks once in food factories and watched the same items go into several different packages from value to premium. Can't hoard food myself as don't have the storage, even have a reminder on my shopping lists to stop me from impulse buying. I think it's easy to eat healthily on a budget as long as you're prepared to cook from scratch a bit.0

Some of the suggestions on the website are a bit obvious - e.g. warning that fillet steak is expensive, and suggesting not to buy takeaway lunches. I imagine most people who are trying to save money are already buying own brands and value products. The recommended products came from different large supermarkets as well - so they wouldn't be able to get a whole shop at Aldi, for instance. It would be Tesco's for teabags, Asda for cheese, etc.0

Aleeady got it programmed in :-)0

I am on wordpress somewhere, but have "mislaid" user name & password
I did run a blog way back in 2005 during my first bout of dieting, prior to finding MFP, on Blogger

Well done if you have succeeded in maintaining your loss. I can see from that you were on a very low calorie intake to begin with!0
-
Sadly I did not maintain the loss, went back up to around 17 stones, which is why I came on MFP after I saw this big fat git in full length bathroom mirror whilst on holiday a couple of years back0
-
Hope you do better with Mfp. Its a way of life for me now.0
-
MFP is working for me, way of life here also, must be the nerd in me but I like the logging and calorie counting here. I found out one of reasons for my previous weight gain was easting what I considered healthy, like a home made fresh fruit salad, was in fact over 500 calories, and that was just breakfast0
-
Blimey! hope you have learned portion control now then!0
-
Yes, as you may have guessed I fell into the trap of assuming healthy diet was low cal, MFP showed me otherwise. I think many unwillingly fall into similar trap, thinking lashings of fresh orange juice, for instance, is fine for weight loss0

I'm going to try and catch up with this on Iplayer in the next few days as it sounds the sort of thing I would like to watch. I'm a big fan of Jack Monroe (www.agirlcalledjack.com) for budget cooking recipes.0

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/sussexbythesea here you go.
Tonight's programme was so depressing. Do people really not know processed sauces contain loads of sugar- as do all those little yogurts she gave her children. Bless them they could hardly tell the difference with unbranded food. More money than sense and a lovely new kitchen she cant even be bothered to cut up a few carrots in WFM0 -
How can you spend £355 a week on food and not know?!0
-
Not watched the programme yet, recorded for later, but I guess it is made for television with all that entails, like finding people who fit one or all of the following [delete as required] fat, poor, rich, toffs, idiots, benefit junkie, druggy, hoarder, or just general dross0

That's impressive. We spend about £140 a week for four, though we shop at a farm butcher for meat and cheese which costs but the taste difference is so worth it.0
