What's the deal with nuts?

I know that we are supposed to stay away from nuts for several months, but never heard why? Is there a specific reason? I managed to NOT stay away from them, this evening.

Perhaps it is because they could get stuck. I'm not sure. Best to get this question answered that are longer post op than me. A nice alternative to nuts is Seedbutter. It's like peanut butter but made with seeds. It's very tasty. I had a tablespoon of it for breakfast with 1/2 a banana. As far as I know, it's only available at Coscto. If you want more information on it, message me and I'll send you more information on it including the nutritional breakdown. It has to be refrigerated.

The reason they want you to hold off on that stuff is for a few reasons. Your stomach is still healing from the surgery. You need to give yourself about 7 weeks at least. Your stitches on the outside may have healed but the inside takes a little longer. And since Nuts are roughage if you will all your doing is irritating the site and you could rupture something. Doesn't mean you will but why take the chance. Made sense to me when they told us. There is always a good reason for them telling you to stay away from certain foods for a while

The reason I was told to wait for 3 mos out is because some of the nuts you can't really chew down to nothing and they don't want small pieces to get stuck in your stomach and possibly cause an ulceration or something. I have a box of kind bars that have been sitting waiting for me to eat them-- but I have 3 weeks left before I can.

I should be OK then. I'm almost 3 months out and have been ahead of the recovery curve. I also googled it this morning and some programs are also concerned about the high fat/calories in nuts. Really easy to blow out your nutrition on a handful of nuts that our sleeves can easily accomodate.

    Thanks everyone!

My nutritionist told me to wait about 6 months for things like raw vegies and nuts because they are too coarse and can cause irratation to the interior surgery site. She also warned that when I can start eating them to be careful due to the high calorie and fat count.

I'm 3 months out, and I have been eating nuts. I make sure I chew thoroughly (as with all my food of course).

I could start having health bars after 3 months so I got a few single 1's before surgery.
I ended up donating them because at 3 months I was able to have most anything and Id much rather have the real nuts (cashews, pecans, boiled peanuts etc) than a few crushed into a health bar.
Its like instead of picking out what you like from a trail mix, you just go straight for what you really want!
