recommendations for household items to use for 5-8 lb weights (or more)?? I know that sounds silly but I really can't find anything that works besides maybe a few books piled up?? Thanks :)

  • People sometimes use cans, but they aren't very heavy unless they are too big to hold easily. Containers that have handles, such as paint, cat litter, spackle. etc. might work. A heavy book like a dictionary is a possibility.

Do you have a cat? Mine weighs 6 lbs, 11 oz. But she hates to be picked up....

But free weights are pretty cheap. Have you tried Craig's List?

P.S. Just kidding about using the cat.

Hey, Molly! I agree with all of Amanda's recommendations. Maybe big bottles of lotion or shampoo, too, but honestly, investing in free weights is the way to go. You can store them under the couch or under your bed so that they are easily accessible without being in the way. To determine which ones you should get, do a round of biceps curls, shoulder raises, and triceps extensions in the store.
