I love live music, so much so that at least once a year I head over and go to one of the European metal festivals. This year was Hellfest, in France (as was last year) and it was just...incredible. Look at the line-up, mind-blowingly good! The Valley stage would definitely be your kind of thing TheCrawlingChaos (incidentally it was headlined by Electric Wizard on the Friday)

Emperor playing the whole of 'In the Nightside Eclipse' for the 20th anniversary of it's release was the highlight of the weekend!

I don't go to many live shows because I don't know a lot of people that share my taste in music. I almost saw Peelander-Z a few weeks ago, but I couldn't get anybody to go to some obscure punk show in a not-so-great neighborhood.

I would have loved to see Emperor at that show.

I'm in the same boat. Advice- just go, even if you don't have anyone to go with. I've been to many live shows by myself, and these past two years went to Hellfest by myself. Of course- sitting in a field in France with 30 000 other people- you're not by yourself for long! Made some awesome friends and had an incredible time! And I'm not someone who is comfortable meeting new people- I'm very much an introvert and find it difficult talking to people I've just met.

Emperor was amazing. Just. amazing. :)

i'm also kind of an introvert, which is why i never really considered going to shows alone. Maybe I'll try it out. I'll have to keep an eye out for local shows coming up.

So many bands! I will try to remember based on chronological order from whence I was a young sapling, until just last year. There may be more outside of this list that I cannot remember:

    Kiss
    Ratt; Bonjovi opened
    Dokken; Cinderella opened
    Dio; Yngwie Malmsteen opened
Metallica; Queensrÿche opened (Mindcrime tour, so good!!)
    Testament
Voivod (I was there for VV... RIP Piggy); Soundgarden opened
    Pantera
    Metal Church
    Crimson Glory
    Dream Theater (pre- James LaBrie)
    Fates Warning; Sanctuary opened
Alice in Chains; Screaming Trees opened
    Queensrÿche; Type-O-Negative opened
    Slayer; Unearth opened
Mr. Bungle (one of the best concerts I have ever been to!)
Megadeth; I believe that Fear Factory and Coal Chamber opened?
    Isis; Mono opened
Celtic Frost; Goat *kitten* and Byzantine opened
    Sunn O)))
    Lacuna Coil
    Children of Bodom
    Opeth 2x
    Opeth / Dream Theater tour
Isis; Wolves in the Throne Room opened
    Messhugah; Cynic opened
    Cynic (headlined)
    Pelican; Black Cobra opened
    Agalloch 2x
Katatonia; Orphaned Land and Swallow the Sun opened
Skinny Puppy; Front Line Assembly opened

There could be more, but these are the ones that stand out in my head. I will keep adding as I remember. This is spanning almost 30 years!
