Started IOP & Meal Plan

So I just started IOP last week for bulimia, this is my first time doing any sort of treatment before. On Thursday I was given a meal plan, and started Prozac. I'm running into some issues with it cause I don't know how to eat that much food (especially the # of starch servings) and the Prozac has completely whipped out my appetite. I'm going to talk to them about this on Monday, but thought since I have this board available, why not use it. Did anyone else have this problem? Can you give any advice on how to master the meal plan?

I'll have a think about this while out foraging (my weekly trip to the vege market
) and see if I can come up with some thoughts for you. @minipony might have some good suggestions for you, she's doing great with increasing her food intake on her meal plan.

So sorry I didn't get back to you Cantaloupe! Busy, busy day. What is the issue with the starchy stuff specifically, is it the amount that's daunting, or is starchy stuff something you struggle with in general in terms of being a 'safe' food?
I think the best tip I can give you is to remember that you don't have to eat it all as full size meals, if it makes it easier for you break it up into lots of snacks.0 -
It's just a lot of food... I've managed to not act on my symptoms for the past 4 weeks by following portion control, eating slowly, and learning when I feel full. I've cut a lot of starch out of my diet cause that was a food I would often b/p on, so that is sort of an issue for me. I have a meeting with the nutritionist Monday before IOP starts... I think one of my issues is I don't completely understand the exchanges. Friday was my first day of following it, so hopefully it'll just get easier with time.0

Ah, gotcha, I thought that might be it. My original ED was bulimia, though a ridiculously long time ago (where the hell did 23 years go??) I do remember it was very hard to have any decent amount of food in my stomach and not feel like I should purge. Do talk to the nutritionist about that, and about the starches. While getting some carbs is important for energy, it is the thing you could swap some of out for more fats and proteins. Maybe you could ask about subbing some stuff out for nutrient dense but high energy stuff like nuts? Yes, it's important that you are eating enough, and that you re-learn that all food is good and 'safe' (well, unless it's poisonous or rotten!), but you also need to do it in a way that isn't triggering for you.0
