My fitbit and MFP

Hello. I've been using the MFP and Fitbit for a while now but I think I'm doing something incorrect. I do see it on MFP as adjustment however, it does not calculate the calories when I do exercise. I have to go in MFP and manually set the exercise I did for the day. Is this how it works or not? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I recommend that you read the FAQ that heybales wrote. You'll find it in the stickies for the Fitbit group. It explains everything most thoroughly.

Fitbit does calculate the calories when you exercise, it just doesn't break out calories burned during intentional exercise from calories burned in daily activity. It just sends the one number over to MFP and MFP calculates the adjustment from that.

Step based exercise - walking, running, aerobic dance, etc. - you can just let Fitbit handle. That's what it is good at. If you want a status entry in your MFP news feed for your exercise, then you can make a manual one.

If you do exercise that isn't tracked well by a Fitbit (weight lifting, cycling, swimming, yoga, etc.) then you need to manually log the exercise, either in Fitbit or MFP (never both). As long as you have a start time and a duration, it won't double count anything.

I think it depends on the device that you use. I had a Fitbit One for a year and that would just send over my general calories burned a block burn each day (adjusting itself accordingly throughout the day). I've now had a Fitbit Surge for 2 months and that can log the exercises because of the device functions available. I hope that helps?
