Happy Sunday Folks! First day of Vacay was Rest. Didn't go anywhere just putzed around the house and watered and divided some house plants, and did some maintenance on my cast iron fry pans, I have a 10 in, a 5 in, and a square one with a grill bottom.

Looking forward to Paleo Fx with son Dan and this dynamic crowd. Should be a very good time.

Angela - Congrats on your Wins! You got this lass. top of the ridge is in site now, another week or so and you'll be on top ready to drop your ruck and enjoy the view. Sounds like a great day outdoors too.

Fitbit still doesn't have the Charge HR in the right size for me so still in a hover. Will likley be my next one if the ever get it in. Thanks for all the input folks.

Have a great day heading for the gym to do deadlifts today w Dan gonna jam!

Yesterday was a nothing day. I was exhausted. Had slept very poorly night before. No energy. Just read, took a nap. Cooked a bit. Laid in the sun for some vitamin D a bit. Guess I needed a slug day. Got like 3000 steps the whole day.

But slept soundly last night. In bed by 10, up at 7. Needed that.

I am SO looking forward to Paleo Fx and meeting you guys! Super excited just to get a hug if we are all on different tracks! Caroline and I only have Expo tix for Saturday so we are attending a talk in San Antonio Friday night by Dr. Kaayla Daniel (who is also presenting at PFx. Arturo, I sent you info about it. Might be good for folks who are not able to attend all the sessions because we just have expo tickets. Anyone else who wants to join us - email me carol@fat2fithq.com and I will forward the email with the eventbrite registration info. This is being sposored by Falster Farm & Journey Wellness Partners:

Join us on Friday, April 24th at 5:30 PM at EcoCentro as Dr. Kaayla Daniel, PhD, Vice-President of the Weston A. Price Foundation, lectures on Myths and Truths About Vegetarian Diets to set the record straight!

You might expect to pay $30 for a lecture with an expert like Dr. Daniel, at the very low end. Along with the support of the San Antonio Chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation and Vital Life Wellness Center, we're able to bring you this wonderful opportunity for far less.

And--just to make our low ticket price an even greater value--we've added a bonus lecture! You might know that the gastrointestinal microbiome is extremely important to optimal health; its myriad functions are greatly impacted by what we put into our gut. At this event, you'll learn why. Jason Gourlas, PA-C, will deliver a lecture entitled The GI Microbiome: More Than A Gut Feeling.

Tickets are a mere $12.50 per person...only slightly more than the cost of a movie, and infinitely more informative and fun!

Had a great Deadlift Session today, Rather than follow a program decided to do some "Hammer Jammer Ladder Game" , After Warm up did three lifts Zercher Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlifts, On the Squats and Bench did a rising ladder (Weights go up reps go down) looked like this Z Squat - 95#/12 (warm up) 115/9, 135/7, 155/5, 175/3, 185/1- 4605 lbs lifted, Bench Press 65/10, 75/9, 85/7, 95/5, 100/5, 105/5, 110/3, 115/1 3865 lbs
then For Deadlift threw time in the equation so did a descending fixed weight ladder at 185lbs
Timed for reps on the minute so at start did 10 reps, rested til min 9 started did 9 reps so on down did 55 reps in 10 mins for 10,175 plus 10 @ 135 for warm up (1350) 11,525 lbs
Total moved for the day 19,995 Feeling fine!
  • Good morning everybody. I'm still here.

Good Morning to you, too, Jen!

Busy travel weeks ahead. Leave this afternoon for Cleveland. Home Tuesday night. Leave Wednesday night for Dallas. Drive to Austin Friday. Home Sunday. (Then leave Monday, home Wed and leave Thursday home Sunday...leave Tues home Thursday....ugh). One of my team got promoted. So I'm doing double duty, my normal mgr job and teaching her classes. And the PaleoFX and Kentucky Derby fell in the mix right now. Too much for me to try and travel down to the Chicago tough mudder. However I will be in Peru IL on the 5-7th....how far is that from you Jen?

Went for a longish (4miles) walk in my fav two local parks with some hill sprints in the middle. Love doing those there. It's grass. Run up is around 25 seconds so perfect for HIIT. Kiefer recommends a2-4 minute recovery between 5-8 rounds. Sarah Fragoso and Jason Seib recommend just going by when fully recovered heart rate...which is pretty much the 2-4 minute mark, same 5-8 rounds. I only did 4 rounds Each face of hill...a week into reorientation I can tell I'm already glycogen depleted. And I really need to keep HIIT type activity to when my body is full of glycogen. I can't do Tabata type ever. Too much stress on my adrenal system/ central nervous system, because they don't allow recovery between sprints. But these with recovery periods between the sprints are fine. As with everything find what works for you.
  • Darn Kim. We'll miss you for the mudder. Peru is just up the road from me (hour or so). Wow, you go to the exciting places, don't ya? Work-related?

Happy Monday and Good Morning Jen and Kim Hope all is well. That's a tough travel Sched Kim, the hills up there are great for those sort of sprints much like the terrain where I grew up in Aurora IL. Interesting how the best advice on nutrition and exercise seems to cross check functionally. Different paths to the same conclusion. Good work on finding what works. I think that's the hardest part of the whole health/wellness equation.
TM Chicago Team is growing looking like it will be loads of fun.

Cleveland. Blah. Fingers crossed meeting goes well, ends on time and can get an earlier flight home. That would be sweet. If not I'll have 3-4 hours of airport pacing time. Ugh. While getting steps & moving is good, that's overkill. And I need to get home, see the boys, do a load of laundry and repack.

I really do not miss those travelling days, and have probably thousands of miles walking in airports. MSP is the best for that as it is a big track and marked. I can do a lot in B Concourse in Denver. For many years I was home 1 day per week, so I know the laundry routine as well (still have it).

Kelly and I did not do much walking at all this weekend, unless the mall counts. Saturday was pretty much snow all day, so drove the 70 miles to town on a whim. Sunday was busy with the garden hot house until I ran out of covering plastic.

So the 2 months of no scale challenge is about to end. At this point I am conflicted if I even want to get on it. Afraid of what it might say, even though my clothes do fit better than 2 months ago.

Mark am glad you don't have those kinds of traveling days anymore either lol! We had a fun weekend and loving the beautiful weather here though way too hot!

I go back and forth with the scale challenge. We shall see next weekend what we want to do. Part of me wants to check my weight and part of me doesn't. I honestly think I would need a different kind of scale that would do a bmi. Or we could just pitch the scales and pull out the tape measure!
  • Good morning everybody. It's Wednesday. Hope John is having a safe trip to Texas. I hope Texas will be SAFE once John's there.

    Safe travels John!

No doubt Jen…We are all bracing ourselves down here in Texas for his arrival. ;)

Kelly and Mark: I'm so stoked about your scale challenge success! I was off it for a month for a whole 30 and I'm a better person for it. I have all kinds of tape measures, I think that's a good way to go. But I might force myself into checking the scale once a month as just one of the many measures. I really have a pair of jeans that should be my only measure. That's really all I care about. Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm worried about health, wellness, upper body strength, definition… But right now I'm so snowed under with everything that if I can just fit into those jeans, life is good. Sad and shallow, but true.

Kim: hug those boys and then tell them you need to get down to Texas. I'm waiting on a hug from you myself!
  • Carol, I know Texas is a big state but John has a big personality! NOWHERE is going to be safe! Hehehe... Just have a great time at the conference. You too Kim! Oh, sooooo looking forward to getting the chance to meet you in May (although I wish you could be at the Chicago TM, but I understand). I gotta talk to Kris and see if she's coming down. I can't be expected to handle the entire Gun Runners team all by myself. LOL!!!!

As all of you hold your scale resolve, I broke my only weigh the morning of CarbNite cardinal rule. Today is day ten of my post vacation CarbNite reorientation (10 days of under 30net carbs per day), it is the usual end date, and morning of a CN. But I'm holding off until Friday at PaleoFX. Where I won't have a scale. So I weighted.

New low. Whoo hoo. And even a new second digit - one I've not seen for years! Granted it was 189.9 but hello 180's.....it wasn't that long ago I couldn't break out of the 200's - kept going up and down 203-212 range. Makes me happy. Still have 30 to go, after which I really want to see how much muscle mass I can add while getting physically smaller....I'd like to see 160 just to make the 100# thing, but then it will be totally measurements and body fat, not scale weight to my goal weight of losing 100 lbs...but this is a good progress step.

And yes, I have at least 30 lbs of fat to lose, probably more actual fat...so anyone expecting some svelte thing at PaleoFX will be sorely disappointed. But on the non scale victory side, there is nothing in my closet I cannot currently fit (or that isn't too big).

As to the scale.. I think it's really up to the person. So I'm no help LOL

Kim, congratulations!! that is huge! Have fun at Paleo Fx. I shall see you guys in Vegas!

I'm doing ok, clothes still fit. Whew. Life has gotten busier when 3 extra dogs. Some days I feel that I am just managing fur, food and waste for the family. (compost, dog poop ) Rosie is at the tail end of blowing coat, foster #1 Bravo is blowing coat and foster #2 Carly looks like she is about to blow coat. We have carpets and it seems pointless at times. I'm not anal with vacuuming in fact I hate it, but it really crush my morale when the carpet looks like I didn't vacuum in just an overnight. :'( I really shouldn't complain about my first world problem lol :p

Interesting observation by Arturo, he says my mind isn't as sharp and I seem to be slower at doing things. He didn't say in a mean way more of a concern. And he is right, I have been noticing it. We talked about it and we both agree that when I was on CNS and high level of exercise I function better and don't really get tired as often as I do now. Ain't that interesting? I think it is, just a few months of eating more carbs/grain and you can see the effect that is has on me. Not on Arturo though except for weight, everything else is normal.

Happy Wednesday Folks! Late post on the day, but San Antonio was fun. Did the River walk and ate a good burger and sweet potato fries for lunch. For dinner did Fogo de Gauch. A great dining experience. Should arrive in Austin tomorrow around noon.

Kim - Hoooah to Ya! every milestone is a victory.

Heron - yep it will sneak in on ya. I tried re into of gluten/bread this week and gonna have to leave it alone. I don't encounter digestive issues but I get some significantg swelling in my joints with a few hours of ingestion, takes two days to clear.

Jen Austin will be great but would havve been e ven better with you and Heron and the rest of ouir crowd here. May is gomnna be a jammin good time. See if you can mobilize Kris.

All Righty then, b een 3 months somke/ tobacco free on the 16th. Still stuff going on metabolically, gvonna have to get control of it. Next Dr appt in Jul, (VA). Already been told will be another new Doc. Never get the same one twice. Oh well Gov healthcare.

Mark - still tracking on the no scale challenge as well, I know since I quit smolking I've picked up at least 20lbs, my knees arre telling me I'm in the 265-280 band. will be interesting to weigh on May 3rd. Never been emotionally tied to the number this challenge has shown me I can key on viusuals as well.

    Kim that's awesome!!

Hmr way to go on the no smoking!

Carol I have found the no scale challenge very interesting as to how tied I was to that number. Now I pull out the measuring tape once a week but not really even tied to that anymore as the numbers aren't changing but I can see where I am! Clothes getting bigger, even the new blouse I wore today looked better than when I tried it on Saturday!

I had a fun day at work today and out for lunch with my middle son (18). Got home and got to have a wonderful evening with Mark as we looking for reloading supplies and a shooting bag for me. I have had a permanent smile for 6 months now and so treasure time spent with him and his girls (dogs).

My youngest son (15) is going to be in our local parade on a float next Friday and can't wait to see it! He's autistic and so building a float and doing this is just amazing to me! So proud of him!
  • Happy Thursday everybody.

Kim, WOOHOO!!!! NSVs are fantastic!!! I've been experiencing scale and non-scale DEFEATS! Not good.

John, it's too bad I couldn't make the Austin trek. I'm sure Carol will 'force' me to go next year (although not sure how well an aspiring vegan would be received at a paleo conference - hehehe). I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody in 'Chicago' (well, 90 minutes from it) in May. I haven't gotten hold of Kris yet but will be doing that today. Orders will be cut soon. I'm going to need some backup as I can't handle the operation alone. :)

Have a great day everybody. PaleoFxers, have a great time at the conference. I know Austin is known for being a bit weird, but jeez, with Carol, Caroline, Kim & John all there, I'm not sure if the city will ever be the same.

Jen - No worries let me know what support you need to get Kris on the move.

Kelly - U B Jammin'! High five to your lad building the float! Post pics please.

All righty then the road is ccalling our names and Austin awaits in the fog and mist. Work hard everybody, Have fun, but above all B Koo-EL!

Happy Thursday! In Dallas. Arrived late to hotel, so little sleep. Not surprisingly my HRV is deep yellow almost orange/red. So amazing how my body reacts to less than ideal sleep.

Heron, what you described is exactly why I anticipate doing CarbNite forever ( just perhaps at more calories when I get lean). Remarkable difference in mental clarity and energy levels when I don't eat carbs. But also the realization straight Leto also bad as I can truly feel when I am depleted and need the insulin boost / CarbNite. It's pretty cool, actually.

Not sure when I'll make it to Austin. Drop dead goal is in time to register and get to Kiefer/ carb cycling panel. Looking firward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Carol I just listened to the gritty goddess podcast on the plane. You and Caroline are a riot. This should be fun.....

Carol, John and Kim, hope you guys have a blast!

Kim, yep I had no idea that a change in diet had so much effect on my mental capacity.. It's pretty amazing and a lil scary. I'm in relative good health anf of sound mind and a few months of eating regular carbs (and I'm not even what a typical American eat for carbs) can cause an effect. I shudder to think how older people with brain issue are coping. Yikes! However this side track definitely help me to stay on the low carb road. When Arturo gets back we are going to look at our calendar and pick a start date for induction.

Well. My foster Bravo tried to play with my other dog unfortunately he decided to go from a standing to full on rocket sprint and apparently the 170lb+ me that was attached to him, was nothing to him. It's as if I'm not there!! He dragged to the ground...so ouch! My knee, wrist and ankle are all hurting. It was funny and I don't blame him. But I've never had a foster as strong as him. If he sees something he wants to chase before the handler and decides to go for it, I can see bad things happening if someone who is not physically strong is handling him.
  • Saturday evening at the Jen household. Loving all of the Facebook updates from our PaleoFX attendees. Hope everybody is having a great weekend.

I'm still trudging along. Enjoyed the updates and pictures from Arturo. Suffered a day of migraines yesterday, when the pills kick in its just enough where I don't feel like I want to dunk my head in ice water.. Yesterday reminded me of one thing, when I was doing CNS, my migraine almost stopped.
See, I know the benefits of low carb for me, but how come I always seemed to forget it when I'm staring at bread or dessert lol
AJ from Body. Io finally contacted me, might have something to do with Arturo asking her in person lol. Hopefully that will help me get back in the strict track, plus I need coaching to deal with certain food issue.
Look forward to hear from everybody's experience at paleo FX and what they've learned.

I know I should be on next weeks thread. But if anybody checks in here I wanted to say that I was reading… But it's been crazy when I was in Austin.

Kim, you look fabulous when I saw you… I'm not surprised you're having such success.

Heron: Arturo tell me you said very nice things about me. That I look to fit, I think? I have to say that I've been very bad about exercise but I've been eating mostly Whole30 and progress has been slow, but it still progress! Thanks for letting us have Arturo for the weekend! We all had a blast. We had to leave town earlier than expected today. Caroline had an epic migraine. She was vomiting on the way home, it was terrible. She's pretty sure it was the lack of sleep because we stayed up very late both nights, and ended up getting up very early both days. I'm sorry you guys suffer with such horrible pain. :(

Kelly, congratulations to you and your success as well. :)

John- it was so great to get to hang out with you for a few days!

And Jennifer… Well, we just can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks!!

I'm gonna go copy and paste this into the correct thread.
