If you're exercising a lot, but not eating the right way, don't bother, you're just wasting time...

A lot of people I see are like how I used to be... I knew I was overweight, I was in denial that I was eating poorly, but I looked to exercise to solve my problem, without addressing the real problem: I WAS EATING WRONG.
So, like a lot of people, I would exercise my butt off, an hour or more a day, lift weights, buy exercise videos, joined gyms, but for "some reason" nothing worked. We look to exercise to make up for, or even reverse, the fact that we don't eat right.
I've read that what and how you eat accounts for more than 70% of your weight loss. I think it's even higher. Now don't get me wrong, exercise is critical, but I'm realizing exercise is critical in getting those last pounds off, as well as maintaining weight loss, as well as all the good stuff for the heart and blood vessels, etc.
But if we think running off that large pepperoni pie is going to work.... we're wrong. For example, one SLICE of Costco pepperoni pizza is 718 calories. Running 6 miles in 1 hour burns 691 calories. Now we just ran for an entire hour and we didn't even burn off that ONE slice of pizza. Now imagine adding in all the food for the rest of the day. Even if what we ate "wasn't that bad." Calorie-wise, it's as if we didn't exercise at all.
Another way I know that what I eat is more important than exercise (in initially losing weight at least) is that I lost my first 35 lbs without working out once. It was all because I ate according to the plan. I do exercise, because it's good for me and I enjoy it, but I don't do it because I think it'll help me lose my excess weight.... but based on studies by the NIH, I know it'll help me keep it off.
So, if you're looking to lose weight, and unable to, even though you're exercising like crazy, but not eating the right way (not following ALL the NS program recommendations), don't bother, I think you're just wasting your time....

If you look at these so called Diet Pills/Products, they all say for best results should be accompanied by Proper Diet and Exercise. What you eat is very important otherwise these products would work on their own or just with exercise.

Well said KoalaBear!
Honestly, I exercise rarely and yet I still lose weight. I was on NS before and did not exercise at all and still lost +/- 15-20 lbs (can't remember). I am not advocating not exercising, just the opposite, in that your statements are correct. The eating healthy IS the most important. I am aware that if I added in regular exercise that I would probably lose weight faster, but I have to be real with myself and my availability to exercise. I work minimum 12 hrs per day and commute to work 1 hr each way. Makes for a long day. I walk to and from train station, but don't log it (just normal routine), but I know it helps. On weekends, I'll try to work out and if I do, awesome! If I can't, well I won't be too hard on myself. It's just me trying to find a balance in dropping unnecessary weight, staying fit, enjoying the dietary change and spending time with loved ones.0
