Does setting stride length keep Flex from picking up "phantom" steps?

My flex likes to think I'm walking when I'm folding or hanging laundry. Does anybody know if setting my stride length will mitigate this problem? (I was going to do it this morning anyway but all the treadmills at the gym were occupied.)

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. The stride length just determines how much distance is allotted when a step is detected, it shouldn't change the actual algorithm for detecting steps.
Have you determined that the steps from those activities make a big difference to the number of steps you get? Note how many steps you've done before you start folding or hanging laundry, then check immediately afterwards. Take that number and divide it by your average steps per day. What percentage do you get?0 -
I get Flex "steps" while drying my hair. I don't overthink the accuracy of my step count—I just use it as motivation to be more active.
All that matters is the accuracy of my Fitbit burn. I lost the weight & have maintained for ten months by eating back my adjustments. By definition, my Fitbit burn equals TDEE (total daily energy expenditure).
Trust your Fitbit for several weeks, then reevaluate your progress.0 -
@editorgrrl Do you eat back ALL your exercise calories?0

Yes. When I first got my Fitbit (in 2013) I was shocked how many calories it said I could eat. I log exercise in Fitbit (never MFP), enable negative calorie adjustments, and eat back all my adjustments.0 -
yes the step count can overestimate my steps when hairdrying- defrosting a freezer liked to send it into sleep mode as well. i have also been eating back adjustments to keep the same deficit. i have lost weight doing that this month. so far the data over 4 weeks has been really accurate in terms of calorie counting0
