What kind of protein do you use?

Hi, I'm Erica and I just had my surgery a little over a week ago. :) My taste buds have changed so dramatically that I am struggling to find anything that I actually like in terms of protein. Any advice on what helps you and what you can or cannot tolerate would be much appreciated.

At first I couldn't handle the sweet, thick shakes they gave me at the hospital. When I got home I switched to Unjury chicken or beef broth. Protein infused, and thin like broth is supposed to be, tastes good too. After a few months I could start doing the shakes again. I'm still not a big fan of most of the shakes but I do use them to up my protein.

I recently started using Quest, I like it but it's pricey. I tried Body Fortress and it was ok, I could take it or leave it, but my favorite is Cellucor, in particular the Cinnamon Swirl and Peanut Butter Marshmallow.

Costco premier protein. After two weeks of clears you can at fulls like this. But 1:1 with water for two weeks. After those two weeks when on mushy food you don't have water protein drinks down.

I agree Premier Protein, at first they were slow to go down...but as the weeks went by they started to go down easier. I do find that if I put them over ice they go even easier as the ice melts.

Thank you all so much! I am using Premier Protein right now. It seems to be the only one I can tolerate and only in chocolate, the vanilla and strawberry are too sweet for me -before surgery it was the exact opposite.

Is it worth the price? I'd about try anything to get another flavor besides chocolate.

I like the peanut butter flavor a lot, and the nutritional profile is very good. Also, it mixes up really well with water, some don't taste as good made with water but the Quest does.

I prefer Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey protein. They have a ton of flavors, and it's not outrageously priced. I buy it from Bodybuilding.com, it's like $30 for 2 lbs. The nutrition profile is pretty good, too. 24g for around 120 +/- kcals, depending on the flavor, and low carb, in general.

In the first couple of months after surgery I really liked the Syntrax Nectar protein drinks, I used fuzzy navel and strawberry kiwi. They mix with water and were thinner ans easier to get down, I bought mine on Amazon.com

I like Unjury protein. Van, choc, straw, unflavored and also a chicken soup flavor that is really good. Alternatively, I use plain unflavored NOW foods whey protein. I add cinnamon and vanilla and sucralose to it with almond or cashew milk and I really like it. Sometimes I add plain bakers cocoa and the sucralose. I do not like Premier Protein. I one time coughed some onto my computer screen and it took forever to get it off. That made me nervous. It also tasted gross.

I can't choke down the shakes anymore. I just drink a crapload of skim milk.

For ready made I like premier. I use the vanilla in place of creamer/sugar in my coffee. I also use the Syntrax nectar cappuccino (again I mix with my coffee for breakfast). I rarely drink protein shakes outside of my coffee. If you go to nashuanutrition.com, you can purchase samples of any of their protein powders (they also sell Quest). It is nice because you don't have to commit to a big container and it also gives you more opportunity for variety.

I'm a big fan of the Syntrax Nectar Lemon Tea. It's the least sweet of all the powders I've tried. I can only stomach a sweet drink a couple times a week, so have unjury chocolate and vanilla powders that I mix with PB or fruit.

EAS Advantedge chocolate or strawberry or Pure Protein Chocolate. All are RTD shakes. I still can't stand powdered shakes after 3 1/2 yrs. I only use them occasionally as a meal replacement now though.

My local grocery store (Hyvee) has their own brand of 100% whey that I like to mix in my coffee. Or Teraswhey is a good less sweet alternative. Early on, I did a lot of Nectar Lemon Tea. Not thick and milky, good for just sipping and I could add more lemon to cut the sweetness some.

I've been using the Body Fortress and Unjury. I got my samples from Quest and have to say their protein powder made a really good smoothie.

I seriously hate the protein drinks to the point, a few weeks out, I stopped drinking my protein. Then I found Genepro peptide protein. In each tablespoon is 30g of protein that will not thicken your drink, and you can put it in hot liquids. I add two scoops for 60g into my yogurt. Just stir well, and eat. The only taste is its a SLIGHT bit salty. It
