I really don't care about ever getting double unders, handstand walks, muscle ups etc.

I just want to lift heavy.

I think I'll carry on WODing once or twice a week and focus on powerlifting the rest of the time, adding Oly lifts back in once my wrist injury is healed. I just can't find the motivation to care at all about gymnastics and have zero desire to smash my shins into boxes.

Anyone else made the switch from CF to pure strength training? I would quite like to compete at some point.

    I've scaled back on going for PRs and going all "beast mode", but my reasons are different. I am now into my triathlon season and those training schedules/programs dictate what I'll be doing for a given day ... Swim, Bike, Run or some days it's bike & run. So like I do every year, Crossfit becomes my strength and conditioning program.
    *I'm very fortunate to have an owner and coaches/trainers that help me re-program the WODs to meet my needs, but all the while keeping my forms in-place. Once my last triathlon is completed (Sept.), I'll move back into "full" Crossfit mode :smiley:

    Does your box or another near by not have a rotation of different days for different focus areas? ie. gymnastics day, pure Oly lifting day, strength day etc? Then you can attend the sessions with the skills that you want to build on and not go on chipper WOD day!

    I have been feeling exactly the same. I don't care for the gymnastics component of crossfit...seems like a good way to hurt yourself. I nearly dislocated my shoulder falling out of a ring muscle up...never again! I love the heavy lifting and the sweaty metcons and emoms...not so much the skill work of handstand walking and muscle ups. I used to go 5 times a week, now i am going 3 times a week and going to the gym on other days. Still trying to find the perfect gym routine though.

    Our gym offers the Crosstfit workouts for General and competitors, and the a powerlifting/strongman program, people switch in and out depending on their goals and upcoming comps. Maybe theres a different box to check out, or ask your coaches for additional programming.

    You have to do what works for you. I like idea of using the WODS just for cardio. Look at a Wendler 5/3/1 program or something like that for your lifts. That worked really well for me this winter.

    I did the opposite, went from pure strength training (for decades) to CF and really enjoy the variety, even if I still have to scale a lot.

    I'll add that there are plenty of posters on here who have done strength competitions, hopefully they see this and can give you the low-down.

    I got recommended 5/3/1 a couple of weeks ago and I just started it yesterday at the gym. I started with squats and I can feel it in my *kitten* today! I chose the tri version. So I am using crossfit as cardio 3 times a week and using 5/3/1 to gain strength and build muscle.

    I switch around all the time. Currently I am doing CF 2 x and 1 x Powerlifting and 1 x CF Lite (EMOM style) a week. I did join a gym a few months ago but found i just wasn't motivated to get there so I canned it. I have discovered I am a team player after all and like the group atmosphere ... but yeah .... not so keen on injuring myself trying to beat all those young uns. Loving the powerlifting and am thinking about entering a novice comp towards the end of the year .... eeekkk

    So I have been talking to the head coach. I feel like I get enough cardio in my rowing outings and I want something different from CrossFit.

    I'm going to drop my membership to 2 classes per week in stead of unlimited classes (I can still attend open gym unlimited), and then use the money saved to get help from the head coach and his High Performance Programming business. He'll program for me to achieve the things I want to get out of it (ie. pure powerlifting)

    The 2 classes per week I can attend can be the Olympic lifting classes, although they are on Tues/Thurs evenings and I'm rowing those evenings at the moment. Once Bumps week is over the rowing schedule will calm down and I can start going to those classes again.

    Glad to hear it's not just me though!

    Change of plans: individualised programming costs as much as the CF membership, so I'd be spending £160 per month (that's $250), so I'm throwing that idea out and looking at specialist powerlifting gyms in stead.
