Understanding maintenance

I'm sorry I just can't understand, can u explain why in Fitbit when it takes my calories in 2366 off my calories out 2433, I have in my head 77 calories left over I can eat. But in mfp it says the same calories eaten but I have lots more calories left over I can eat 400+ despite the adjustment from Fitbit. I'm in maintenance. So I thought no matter what your goal is ( sedentary etc) Fitbit adjustment will still come to the same final amount of calories. I want to try and eat what I burn everyday and my days are very different so I thought Fitbit adjusted your goal accordingly each day. But no matter what u put in as a goal for the day today , the Fitbit adjustment Is the same amount? I'm confused?

I think I kinda understand now, sorry, what is left on mfp I can eat includes the extra I have added on myself. So how do I set them both up so I'm eating what I burn, or do I have to keep adjusting my guess for my goal until I find a number that keeps my weight stable? I eat and burn so differently each day. Some are a lot more active than others.

Set your goal to maintenance: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/change_goals_guided

    Enable negative calorie adjustments: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings

Ignore your Fitbit calorie goal and follow MFP's, eating back your adjustments.

I don't understand what you mean by "the extra I have added on myself" or "adjusting my guess for my goal."

If I change my setting from sedentary to active I still have the same number adjustment from Fitbit? Surely if I start as active Fitbit will give me less calories adjustment for my exercise than if I'm sedentary?

Changing your activity level will only change your future adjustments. It does not affect your previous adjustments.

I do ignore Fitbit and follow mfp but
Ialthough I'm in sedentary I changed the calorie goals myself from 1570 to 1800 , ( people said to change gradually till you found what was right and I've stopped loosing it) that's wat I mean by added on myself.
So if I change it back to the 1570 will that just mean I get a bigger adjustment. But still end up with the same number left over/over eaten?

I am an maintenance and have enabled negative adjustments. But if I go with mfps goal I loose weight. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. That's why I was trying to understand the maths. Sorry I won't bug you any more. Thanks for trying to help

I kept losing in maintenance, so I go over goal every day, rather than changing my goal. (It took trial & error to find how much I can go over and still maintain.)

Sounds like whatever you're doing is way more complicated and confusing than it needs to be.

That sounds the same to me as trial and error of adding on that amount to my goal. But ok I will try it that way like you thanks

The 2nd half of the FAQ in the stickies explains it with numbers. Not yours, but same idea, and shows why they don't match up all the time.

Understanding how something works is always good.

The stickies are the threads that are always there, at the top of the group. But here's a link:
