Week Two

Welcome to Week Two! To kick things off, maybe we can each give a quick update on our progress and such? I'll start:

I am pretty stunned by the effectiveness of just changing my diet and tracking what I eat. I lost four pounds in Week One, and I did not exercise much at all. In the previous six weeks, I was running six times a week (30-40 miles per week), but eating pretty much whatever I wanted. Needless to say, that is not the best way to lose weight :) I am going to stop running distances until I have lost the weight I want to lose, as the weight is surely part of the reason for the aches and pains in my joints (yeah, yeah...and age). Until then, I want to just keep eating as well as I can, and find some new and different ways to work out. I would love to do something as a group, if anyone has anyone ideas...

Nice job everyone! My mood has been pretty crappy the last several days, which means my diet has been pretty good. Hopefully the mood changes as I get used to the calorie reduction.

I just wanted to share my tips (or at least what I think about) right before I cave-in and go buy a burrito. It has helped me on most days...not all:
    - I need to eat for fuel. Don't eat something because it just taste so damn good. I will then eat a bar (Cliff bar, Quest, Kind, etc) and drink a water. It usually gets me past the craving for at least a couple of hours.
    - In 60 days, I don't want regret not sticking with the diet. 60 days goes by fast, just not when you are thinking about food every second. Actually I don't remember how long we are doing this for but its all the same...60 days, 90 days, 365 days....
    - More importantly....I need to make Mara's sexy men of SDFHL calendar for 2016.

I'd love to hear what gets you past your cravings. Please share.

    I'm down 4 lbs too.

I'm off to Vegas again...this time with a plan. I'm sticking with sashimi and salads, and I booked an early flight home.

LMAO with the calendar comment, Arnold. With respect to your cravings question, I don't struggle with cravings TOO much, but I do, of course, get hungry from time to time. When I get hungry, I find that is when my mind is most likely to go to a delicious/fattening fantasy meal. So, eat often...snack often if you are finding yourself craving cheeseburgers and milkshakes. The protein bars are a staple for me. I eat the 10g and the 20g protein bars...one or two of them a day when I need a bridge to the next meal. Use the bars as a preemptive strike. If you're about to go out or eat, and you're starving, eat a bar first. It will help take the edge of your ravenous hunger, and should save you from indulging too much. Raw almonds are also a good, fibrous, healthy food that will derail your craving train. I don't know how you are doing so well in Vegas, bro! When I am in Vegas, all bets are on the tables, and all bets are off on the diet. Nice work...keep it up!

    Thursday

    Food 3.5
    Exercise 3.5
    Water 3
    Energy 4

I can attest to Mark's comment. I have been exercising like crazy, but not doing a ton with the food. I am down 1.7 lbs. this week. I think this is a healthy weight loss for me since I think I want to lose 10-15 lbs. I want to be able to go out and eat whatever some days. I want a diet that is easy up maintain long term, which is not actually a diet, but just finding a balance.

    My update:
I had a great first week. But this week has been a little bit de-railed. I have been volunteering at a kids camp, which provides snacks, that have some nutrition goodness, but also candy (one of my weaknesses). Plus Matt is out of town, so exercise is harder to fit in the schedule. Time to re-focus.

    Today: Food 2, Exercise 3, Water 5, Energy 3

Looks like I accidentally put this in the 'Week One' thread last night:

I am officially getting sick of salads with chicken! Trying to fight the boredom of eating the same things over and over...

Added some diet variety today...had an acai bowl (following in Shira's footsteps), and I had a lettuce-wrapped burger for dinner. I actually loved the burger like that...I may never go back to buns :)

Rough one yesterday. No exercise and happy hour. But I was able to find "healthier" drinks and food options than normally for happy hour. Burger without the buns was perfect. But I did have a few fries. It was so good, though!

I did about as well as I could today. It was a long, exhausting beach/pool day with family. I ran three miles on the beach, and did plenty of splashing around in the waves/pool. I was GOING to complete Gabe's fitness challenge tonight, but it will have to wait until Monday or Tuesday.

I am in a slump. I am also going to Vegas this week and don't plan on trying too hard to eat well. I will try to exercise.

I've been pretty good today with my food, but there is plenty of time left in the day to mess that up;)

Another strong diet day for me. I am in the zone at this point...even blatant candy, chips, and cookie moments don't faze me. I am fitting in exercise when I can...would like to step that up this week.

I had a better second half of the week diet and exercise wise. I still need to cut down on the carbs if I am going to see some quicker change.
(I also love lettuce wrap burgers)
