Sleep results- restless and awake a lot

Before getting Fitbit I've sometimes felt unrested or noticed I require way more hours of sleep than average.
Now with the Fitbit my results show a lot of restlessness and a couple of awake times even though I don't feel it during my sleep. So for example last night I slept for 9 hours but on the Fitbit I only got 7 real hours of sleep.
I'm shocked at these results, because the days I get 7 hours of sleep on Fitbit it only shows 4 real hours of being asleep. Does anyone have results like this? Is it accurate ?

Yes, I have Fitbit sleep data like that. But I can't comment on the accuracy—yet. I'm going to an overnight sleep study next week. The doctor didn't know if I could wear a Fitbit, as there will be sensors on my wrists. The large Flex band would fit on my ankle—but it might not be allowed. I don't know when I'll get the results, but I'll keep you posted.

Here's what Fitbit has to say: http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/Sleep-tracking-FAQs

I think you're supposed to use it as a metric and look for trends. For example, I sleep better if I walk 5 miles at 6 p.m.

You might want to check to make sure you're not using the "sensitive" setting on your sleep tracking. That said, it's probably correct. What I like to look at is my "Sleep efficiency" (which I think I can only see in the web browser, not the Android phone app). If my sleep efficiency is less than 90%, I usually don't feel rested, no matter how many hours I spent in bed. So, the Fitbit sleep tracking generally just serves as confirmation of what I already know about how I slept, but it does help me to be more aware of the quality of my sleep and importance of a good night's sleep.

Going to work on figuring out how to get better sleep.

Google "sleep hygiene" for advice on improving the quality of your sleep. It'll take trial & error to find what works for you. For example, melatonin gave me really vivid dreams. But I bought a $15 white-noise machine at Rite Aid, and love it.

I'm still waiting for the results from the sleep study, but the technician said I toss & turn a lot.

My Fitbit says I woke 4 times and was restless 14 times, for a total of 47 minutes awake/restless. I took 22 minutes to fall asleep, and slept for 6 hours and 37 minutes.

For comparison, my Jawbone UP2 says I only woke once—but I remember waking at least 4 times. All the other numbers are the same: 46 minutes awake, 22 minutes to fall asleep, 6 hours 38 minutes total.

I have similar results. Looking forward to hearing how your sleep study results compare.

Being an addie, I've always had trouble sleeping and I nap a lot. But I've found to take the results as an estimation.

I have found that the Charge HR to be more accurate than when I had the Flex. I looked at my sleep pattern last night and it was on the money.

I have noticed I have more restless sleep if I have had caffeine at all the day before. Even though I'm not aware that I'm restless, fitbit records it as that.

It is normal to wake during the night and change position, so it doesn't bother me to see periods of restlessness with fitbit. I know how well I slept by how I feel the next day anyway.
