Running 40 miles a week then going on a month long vacation

My running has dropped off the page since taking vacation (work has also intervened) and although I was running 40 miles a week for the last few months, I thought it would be good to take a break during my holiday. Instead of running, I've been walking about the three quarters of the milage. As a treat I signed myself up for a 10K and got a new pair of shoes. Admittedly I'm feeling a bit nervous about doing a 10K race because I'm worried about pushing myself to hit a new PR.

Has anyone ever had a similar situation? Any hints/tips to share?

All the best!

Just worried about not being able to get back up to my usual pacing, averaging 7 to 8 mins/mile. I've been running hills this week to 'slow myself down' a bit and get ready to go 'all out' :) Will share how the results are :)

good luck, seems like a good plan. if not, people would be more than happy to tell you that it was a bad plan :)

also maybe this isn't the one to worry about a personal record, maybe the next one. I'm guessing it will be fine either way though
