UCI World Championship Cycling here in Richmond, VA has come to an end but it was an amazing week of over 1,000 world class riders from 75 different countries along with over 650,000 spectators that came through Richmond without any incidents or hiccups.
The course had various start locations but all ended in downtown Richmond. All within 10-15 minutes from home, one of the starting locations was the same Kings Dominion amusement park I've gone to since I was a kid. We went there that day and seeing the cameras and stage and announcers was almost surreal.
The mens elite race was 162.4 miles over a 10 mile course (16 laps). The winner Peter Sagan who is my top pro rider did it in 6:14:37 @ 26.01 mph avg... that's insane.
OK So here's some videos and photos, most of which aren't mine.
This video (8:15) is the last 4 kilometers of the race and is pretty much the best moment ever - https://www.facebook.com/5jd4jd3/videos/947201902017520/
Me and my friend rode our road bikes on the same cobblestone sections last Thursday evening and they were pretty tough!
This is the womens elite race and its specatular. Lizzie Armitstead was confident enough in her ability to display patience before power. Just watch her set up for that strong sprint finish! Amazing! It gets good around 7 minutes in.

This video (3:22) is all aerial highlights of Richmond and of course the race, excellent footage - https://vimeo.com/140801587
