All righty then folks. I'm posting this up a bit early cause I'm putting Gregs pics here and it will roll the discussion into the coming week
Here is Grep as of Friday 2 Oct. A little history, Greg has been a weight lifter since his teens, he is 47 years old, 6'1" tall happily married father of two children. and a co-worker of mine. up until he was 40 or so he was a power lifter. He won some tournaments doing that and has a very impressive lift total when he was competing. The other side of that sort of lifting is lots and lots of muscle mass. He was in fact pretty well tuned out at 290lbs. He decided he wanted to do bodybuilding and spent a couple years trying different cut methods that were not as effective as what we've been doing He reports that the last time he cut from 225 he went down to 185 but looked much worse for wear, and not nearly as goiod on his back shoulders etc.
So where he is now is at 10 weeks we took him from 226 lbs to 204 lbs, I didn;t do pics of his legs but I have to tell you they are competition ready. His problem now as it was the first time he tried to cut, is the skin around his belly. The fact that you are not seeing those abs are not because there is a lot of fat underneath the skin, its that there is just too much skin. So I know if Zena were still here should would have an answer for this (she was a self taught skin expert) I am finding little in the literature about it non surgically. (Surgery is not an option he is willing to peruse for his hobby.) Any ideas out there?

Hi HJ! Greg looks like a highly functional athlete. He's genetically gifted in the deltoid department, lucky guy. Sounds like he's wondering what he can do short of a skin lift for lax abdominal skin from having so much muscle on in the past from lifting. Anything he can do to increase collagen will help. Most of the masters women I know who compete have exilis protege elite treatments and are happy with their results. If Greg doesn't have any contraindications to exilis (chronic diseases, inflammatory conditions, systemic disease of connective tissue, etc.) then it's worth a shot!0
-
Thanks Amy who would he sek these treatments from or is exilis a commercial product? If so where to buy?

Exilis is an FDA approved medical device that dermatologists have in their office. Some plastic surgeons run med-spas as an adjunct to their surgical practice, so med-spas usually have the device. You go in and see either the MD or Nurse Practitioner who evaluates you and completes a treatment plan (this is usually complimentary). Then an RN or medical assistant gives you a price quote, you decide if you want to proceed, and usually the RN or medical assistant with exilis training administers the treatment(s). It takes about 3 months or longer for collagen remodeling to occur, so it's not an overnight deal. I would google search exilis and his location to see what facilities offer treatment. Some dermatologists and med-spas run groupons so it might be a good idea to try "exilis" in the groupon search box. Depending on the number of facilities that offer treatment in his area, even if he finds a groupon it's a good idea to go to a few different facilities for consultations and decide where to go based on competency of practitioner.0

John, your friend looks great! Congrats!
Came back from camping, had a great time fishing, kayaking, hiking. Didn't do too bad only gained less than 2lb. Will try to work out more this week and cut down on calories to try minimize damages.0 -
Hi all! The extra skin sucks for sure John. I'm sure with your friend there is hope. I know I will never get rid of mine without surgery there is just to much of it.
Sounds like a great weekend Heron. I've been meaning to ask. I have noticed people leave the h off when commenting to you. Is your name spelled like your user name or just Heron?
I maintained last week but expected that after an extra treat night with friends. This week was just Friday and no beer so it should be a good week. In fact if it holds out I peeked at the scale and I'm down 3 already, so we will see how that goes as it fluctuates through the week. Another good reason to only weigh in once a week.0 -
Your friend looks great John. Greg is lucky to have a friend like you to work with him. I was fascinated by Amy's advice. I'm always amazed what you can learn in our group!
Congratulations on your progress Howie. Well, I finally got on the scale also. I needed to see how bad things were and I was right they are pretty bad. That's no surprise of not been doing much to make matters better. The occasional workout is not going to do it for me. I finally started tracking my food again today just to start realizing what all I'm putting in my mouth. It did make me think twice on a few things so I think I'll keep it up for a little while.
Heron, your trip sounds like it was fun. I hope you're ready for another one! Very excited to meet you next weekend in Vegas!!0 -
Happy Wednesday Folks, On the week countdown to the start of my Vacay 5 working days left. Like Carol looking forward to meeting you Heron, and seeing the Chi Town and PaleoFx group again.
Keep it rollin Howie Fall is such a great time to be out and about.
Thanks on the Comments, Greg works hard at his hobby, I've helped him go from strenght focus to hypertrophy, and Fat loss. After the first 6 weeks he was so pleased with the progress he wanted me to re write his workouts completely. Didn't really need to; just re work his loads and reps on stuff he was already doing. His home gym in his garage is as good of one of those as I've ever seen, and as a typical body builder now when we do progress checks he is more concerned that I'm seeing progress in him and that I'm happy about what he's doing. Also wants me to tell him EXACTLY what to eat. Bodybuilders are a lot of work.
All Righty Then! Carol I know you'll think things through and come up with a solution that works for ya. Just a little Carol puzzle ya gotta solve.0 -
I have to write it down Carol or I'm not sticking to anything. I will always eat way to much if I don't track.0
-
Carol, I'm totally excited as well!
I'm sorry about your slip up, we've all been there, the weight loss thing is HARD. I think it's easy to just say "oh what the heck, just this one time" I battle that in my head constantly! I have an addictive personality and I know that and I have to tell myself "no" a lot yet it's still plenty of slip ups. But it's ok, don't look at how many slip you have, instead focus on every time that you've made the right decision. Be strong! You can do it!!
I've been dealing small injuries here and there and I've finally came to the reality of that even if I CAN do heavier weights, I probably shouldn't, instead just focus getting a lot stronger first.
Do you guys wanna do a group dinner? Pick a place in Vegas? Or give me an idea what you guys are into and I can research a place?0 -
Dinner sounds good no clue as to where, but good steaks cheap with karaoke sounds like some potential fun. How bout it Jen and Carol?

I am DOWN for the group dinner! Steaks sound great!!0
-
Thanks Howie, Heron & John. I know I'm not alone. Just hate starting over completely!0
-
I'm good with a group dinner. No idea where to go as I know NOTHING about Vegas (other than I've heard there are a couple casinos somewhere out there - hehehe). Steaks works for me as well. Looking forward to spending time with everybody. So who all will be heading to Vegas? Carol, me, John, Lisa (???), Heron & Arturo. Who else?
I'm hoping to be able to have a live hangout for the YouTube crowd sometime Friday (yes, I'm THAT kind of person who feels it's necessary to let the world see my life - hehehe). Let's just say the cameras will be going crazy all weekend. Not actually participating means I can hopefully get some fun footage of the Gun Runner crew.
A week from today we all head out! The countdown begins.... I have some purple gear coming. I sure how the stuff fits!

Happy Thursday Folks 4 more working days to Vacay0
-
Sounds like you all are going to have a great time. I wish I could join you.
We were having dinner with friends last night so I saved my calories for that and did not eat lunch and did not have dinner until 9pm. I tell you what even though I had a good size burger and a salad I still went to bed feeling hungry. LOL Funny because if I had eaten during the day and had the same calories I don't feel that way. It was just the waiting all day.
The weight is still coming off so I'm hoping for a good 5 lb loss maybe more. It's a good way to start off October. I would like to be 320 by Oct 19. That is my wedding weight and the 19th is our 25th anniversary of meeting. We met on a Hayride that our two churches were having. I probably wont make it though unless I have more than a 5 loss this week. It would be hard to have 5 and then follow up with 4 but as long as I get under 320 by the end of the month I will be happy. I hope to get to 299 by Christmas. I hate that I was there last October and just let it go. A whole year down the tubes, story of my life.0 -
Steak it is! Are you guys are staying in the same area? PM me where you guys are staying so I can find a convenient location.
Howie, I feel you, I was down to my lowest I've been in a while last year and I'm not sure I'm going to make that goal this year. Not giving up but not putting pressure on myself either.

Howie, Heron, Carol, Jen and looks like most folks on the planet, (including me) are in the same boat. I came to the realization that the gain from smoking cessation was not gonna drop off this year. so set my self a two year horizon (not a goal), set the compass south and using the auto pilot (so I can study the route), Just now sort of clearing the estuary and hoping for a tail wind and following seas. Plenty of life jackets and open berths.0

Happy Friday Folks! Hope all is well with all of you, got a quick turn around today, gonna visit Greg at his home gym to do some more pics and go over some work out stuff Taking my ipad w coach's eye, and the "Big" Dog Nikon for some good pics. Might get my efficient ex in as well.0
-
When are you guys arriving in Vegas? We get in Thursday night, so I was thinking dinner on Friday night if that works.0
-
Heron
I get in at 1026 am on Thurs, Carol around noon and Jen in the afternoon. So Dinner on Friday is Good O! TM start time is 1115 on Saturday if anybody has a later one then we will have to move back to their time. The count down continues...0 -
John, Sounds great, can you PM me what area you staying at? So I can find a place that is not so far for everybody? If not that's fine, I'll just find a place kinda center to Vegas.0
