Feeling Excluded

Hi, I've been a Vegan for a year now and I've noticed that I sometimes get excluded from meals out with friends. On the whole my friends and family have shown great interest and support since I made the decision to follow the Vegan Lifestyle but lately I've found out about a couple of groups of friends that have been out for a meal and I've not been invited. As I'm not aware of upsetting anyone I've come to the conclusion that maybe it's because I'm Vegan. I'm not a fussy eater and have always said I'll find something on the menu wherever people choose to eat. If I'm right I'm a bit upset, just wondered if anyone else had experienced this exclusion or whether it may just be in my head!!

Most of my friends (though they eat meat) have pretty diverse tastes in food, so there is usually something yummy no matter where we go. Fortunately, my brother (who is one of my best friends) is also vegan, so we go to eat all the time. Most of the exclusion comes from the rest of my family. While they are supportive of us, they grew up in the south eating the All American diet.

When I first became vegan, they would still ask me if I wanted to go out from time to time. I usually always declined (because they go to steakhouses and stuff), so I guess they just don't waste the breath anymore. However, it would be nice to at least be invited.

Fortunately I haven't had your experience. But I do empathize with you. Most of the time I go with them unless they're going to a seafood restaurant or steakhouse. A plain salad, a veggie plate or a baked potato isn't my idea of a meal out. When I go out I want to eat something I don't make at home. We usually wind up at a Thai place where there are quite a few vegan choices.
I guess I'm just lucky in the "friends & eating out" department.
