The San Diego River Park Foundation has lots of FREE opportunities to participate in river improvement projects, including clean-up days, removing invasive plants, etc. If you want to get outdoors and get some exercise doing a great thing for the community, check out the "Volunteer & Events Calendar" on their website. You can also follow the San Diego River Park Foundation on Facebook.

The dojo (martial arts school) where I train in Aikido offers an inexpensive introductory course for anyone interested in trying out this graceful, non-violent practice. You can find current info on Aikido 101 here:
    http://www.aikidosd.com/course.htm

Aikido is unique among martial arts in that its aim is to avoid violence, protect the attacker (think of an out-of-control child, friend, or patient), and help us become better people. I've been training here since 2009, and highly recommend it. You can join at any time, or do the "Aikido 101" course (Mon/Wed evenings for 4 weeks) most months of the year. The November course starts tonight (Nov. 2nd, 2015), and the next course begins on Monday, January 18th.

Think you might enjoy group dancing? San Diego Contra Dance is a very active, longstanding group that holds dances almost every week, with live music, and beginner-friendly lessons at the start of each one. You do not need a partner! There's a modest fee. I've only been to one, years ago. It was a blast.

Here is the San Diego Contra Dance schedule, and you can follow San Diego Contra Dance on Facebook, too.

How about surfing? I grew up in Pacific Beach, and had been body surfing, Boogie Boarding, surf kayaking, water skiing, and wind surfing, but didn't try plain ol' surfing on a surfboard until I was 52. I took a weekend class with a group of friends at Surf Diva Surf School. Got just good enough to pop up for a second or two before wiping out. :-) Hey, it's a start. LOL

The ocean has been pretty warm! When we have some warm fall days go for it! You can check the current water temperatures here: https://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/spac_tmap.html

Roller Skating is my personal favorite. I learned to skate with the San Diego Derby Dolls www.sandiegoderbydolls.com

And they have an event this weekend! Marvel vs DC roller derby bout!
