Fitbit + heart rate monitor help?

Hi everyone! I got a fitbit about a week and a half ago and am trying to understand how it might work with my
Polar heart rate monitor. For instance, if I go on a hike tomorrow and want to wear both my fitbit zip and polar hrm for more calories burned accuracy, do I still add them both to myfitnesspal? I would like to keep track of my steps, but the calories burned on the zip won't account for me going up a mountain, but the heart rate monitor will. I don't want myfitnesspal to reflect way more calories burned than I actually did. I noticed when you add exercise, you include a start time... I am guessing that it makes that time frame calories burned on the zip not count, but instead only takes the hrm calories burned into account? Do I have it right? I hope my question makes sense, I am so confused as to whether I should only wear one or the other during exercise... Thanks.
I also would like some friends on fitbit so add me if you want

Awesome question glad you asked it!! I was wondering the same thing except with a bike trainer.0

So this is working out for you ok? I am looking at the same setup as i use my zip when on the treadmill or walking the park and want to get a little more accuracy on the calories burned. I would upgrade the fitbit to one with the hrm but they are not as effective on a treadmill as the zip is. The zip just goes in my pocket when i wake up and is there all day.0

The zip will be just great accuracy for treadmill and walking in park.
As long as the distance it sees is correct.
Actually - you want it to be accurate when walking at daily serious pace - not fast exercise pace nor grocery store shuffling pace.
After all, what is most your daily pace at - exercise level? You want it most accurate for what most the day is.0
