Vivofit 2 not counting enough steps

I got my Vivofit 2 for Christmas and really like it, but the last two days when I walk three miles on a measured track it is only saying between 3,000 and 4,000 steps. I think that is way to low. I'm only 5 ft 2 inches. Anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it?

I believe there is a way to set your tracker to measure your exact stride. I just got mine today.. but this is part of what I researched before purchase0
